There has been some press coverage of the Queen visiting Austaralia and over there it has started a debate as if Australia should become a Rebublic or not. What do you think?

I think you picked the wrong time to introduce this debate as it's the middle of the night in Australia at the moment. :p

Out of genuine affection for the Queen herself, I think Australia will not become a republic until after she passes.
John Howard, a monarchist, pretty much admitted this the other day.

It is interesting how personal characteristics play a part in the matter. It is unlikely Australia will become a republic under the Queen, but much more likely under Charles. However, were the Aussies to skip Charles and go for William, I remember hearing that he would probably be able to command the same respect as the Queen, and so maintain the monarchy.
I just heard that on a tv debate programme, so don't ask me to back it up with any statistics. :p

Republic. Although the Queen isn't so bad, but Charles is a dick.

There are other options.
Why not your own 'royal' family?
Or a democracy (ie differentiating it from 'Repubic' a la the U.S.)

Federated Republic! With a mixture of directly elected and proportional representatives in both chambers of legislative. Best system in the world.

Or an emperor!!! The Empire of Australia!!!
Screw the Queen and her royal family. All they do is leech off the system. Dethrone them and use the wasted money for something else.

If Australia is the 30 year old, Canada must be the 60 year old.
