Swedish Eurovision Selections Final - Your Preferred Song

Fass
14-03-2006, 20:20
Well, come Saturday Sweden will have elected the song to represent it in the Eurovision Song Contest (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eurovision_Song_Contest) among 10 songs that made it through the semi-finals.

Andreas Johnson - Sing For Me (http://svt.se/svt/road/Classic/shared/mediacenter/player.jsp?d=49118&a=556298)

Björn Kjellman - Älskar du livet (http://svt.se/svt/road/Classic/shared/mediacenter/player.jsp?d=49118&a=556299)

Linda Bengtzing - Jag ljuger så bra (http://svt.se/svt/road/Classic/shared/mediacenter/player.jsp?d=49118&a=556300)

The Poodles - Night Of Passion (http://svt.se/svt/road/Classic/shared/mediacenter/player.jsp?d=49118&a=556301)

Magnus Carlsson - Lev Livet (http://svt.se/svt/road/Classic/shared/mediacenter/player.jsp?d=49118&a=556302)

Rednex - Mama Take Me Home (http://svt.se/svt/road/Classic/shared/mediacenter/player.jsp?d=49118&a=556303)

Carola - Evighet (http://svt.se/svt/road/Classic/shared/mediacenter/player.jsp?d=49118&a=556304)

Magnus Bäcklund - The Name Of Love (http://svt.se/svt/road/Classic/shared/mediacenter/player.jsp?d=49118&a=556307)

Kikki Danielsson - Idag & imorgon (http://svt.se/svt/road/Classic/shared/mediacenter/player.jsp?d=49118&a=556312)

BWO - Temple Of Love (http://svt.se/svt/road/Classic/shared/mediacenter/player.jsp?d=49118&a=556316)

Which one of these do you think should win?

Now, you cannot say that they all suck, because that is the whole point - they're supposed to suck. It's just the way the ESC is. You just gotta choose a favourite among the suckitude. Personally, of the finalists I prefer "Jag ljuger så bra" and "Lev Livet," but the song I really wanted to see win (http://svt.se/svt/road/Classic/shared/mediacenter/player.jsp?d=48550&a=551041) did not reach the finals.

Jee, a whole postload full of Fassian music links. Where can I flee to?

On a side note, I have of course not listened to any of them, but will rather shut my ears and remain faithful to, umm, my one true love. Listening to Christmas songs in March isn't a bad thing after all.

Of course I did, especially having been forwarned by you. Which is what sparked my comment.

I might even retract that though, as I go along. Look at those dreads on the Rednex guy. I did mention shutting my ears, no?

Don't suppose you've seen the British entry? Bloody hell, it's taking the concept of putting a crap song in Eurovision way too far. I'll try find a link for those who haven't witnessed this...this thing.

Shut them all you want, especially during that number. It's like a mockery of all things US, but just that it isn't and takes itself seriously.

I assumed you did...at the very least you could watch it online. I should probably attempt to learn another language, so I could (if I wanted) watch foreign tv.

Besides, I was thinking of poorer countries, that can't get BBC, or those people who don't understand English. I can't imagine Wogan's comments come over all that funny in translation. Anyone know if Germany's doing another comedy entry this year?

May I just comment that it dosn' matter who you pick, it's which country has the most friends. Countries don't vote on talent in europe, we vote on who's best. Well at least the mainland does, and that excludes the northern countries (Norway, Sweden, Finland). Just pick the crappest singer and if you are euro-friendly I guarentee you will win the ESC, or we'll give you a refund and 500 euros extra. Terry Wogan was right. The rest of the BBC was wrong. We need to leave this waste of space. And while we're at it kill Gemini.

And what's Eurovision?

Well, according to Uncyclopedia.org:
The Eurovision Song Contest was invented in Scotland in 1682 by a wee crofter called Wullie Faifley. Knitting away at the first scripts in his croft, Wullie's dream was of a Europe united beneath a banner of song. So well-received was this vision by his friends and neighbours that they failed to detect his heavy sarcasm.

Ever since, all Europe has been plunged annually into a barbaric torture session. The basic problem with the Eurovision Song Contest is that anyone who is actually any good at singing or writing songs is already somewhere else getting paid huge wads of cash to do it as a proper job. Thus the only shite that gets entered for the contest is... well, shite. When true talent actually emerges (as in the case of Molvanian Superstar Zladko “Zlad!” Vladcik) the judges find a way to disqualify Zlad!. Although in Vladcik's case he was arrested in Turkey for Drug possession.

Ireland used to win it quite a lot. We can only assume they were taking the piss. Everyone blames Dana for this.

Every year more countries join Europe and are allowed to enter the contest. This increases the number of songs, and makes the whole ghastly nightmare last longer. It is tradtional to make the mistaken assumption that using style, props, genres and artists from the previous year's winning entry will guarantee a less woeful result than your country got last year; in 2003, this resulted in over 70% of entries being comprised of Gregorian chanting boy bands dressed in Rollerball outfits. Mid-act constume changes were banned in 2001 following a unilateral NATO treaty on strategic wardrobe proliferation.

The Eurovision Song Contest was cited in 1998 as the third most stressful life event, after the death of a spouse and a family trip to IKEA.

The contest is currently seen in places as far away as Australia. While incredibly popular, Aussies do not call it "Eurovision". ABC broadcasts the show under the title, "Reasons My Ancestors Left Europe".

The following have been reported to the UN by Hans Blix as the most urgent reasons to ban further outbreaks of Eurovision Song:

* Abba
* Lulu
* Documentaries about Abba
* Abba
* That woman off that thing who was in it once
* We're pretty sure France deliberately gave us nil points last year even though we were great

Alright, here are two from a CD by los Orishas ( http://www.orishasthebest.com/), a Cuban hip hop band who record in France. I've been listening to this one CD for about three weeks straight, and these two songs in particular. These aren't necessarily the songs that make the hair on the back of my neck stand up...but I don't have those at work with me. I have to admit though that I have a huge crush on this band...in my spare time I imagine meeting them in France and convincing them to let me sing with them:).

Bombo ( http://rapidshare.de/files/15516981/07_Track_7.wma.html)

La Vacuna ( http://rapidshare.de/files/15517506/13_Track_13.wma.html)

But it's generally the political music that gives me goosebumps...Atahualpa Yupanqui, Quelentaro, Victor Jara and Amparo Ochoa in particular all have a number of songs that put my heart in my mouth.

Anyone know if Germany's doing another comedy entry this year?
Alas, since the "Not intentionally, no" bit has already been done, I'll be the one to answer this burning question.

They actually picked the song a few days ago, seems there were only 3 to chose from (because they didn't trust the audience to make a good choice, so they sorted out the worst shit beforehand. *I wish*)

Now, I've only read about this, but here's what i can tell you:

It's a country song (!), sung by a woman, accompanied by a band lead by Olli Dittrich, who actually is *gasp* one of those oxymoronic creatures: a funny German comedian. And yet, if I'm not mistaken, the song is supposed to be serious.

Oh, and I forgot to mention that everybody is wearing country music attire.

So, is Germany doing another comedy entry this year? The answer, I'm afraid, is a resounding "Not intentionally, no."

No. An ugly man in a bathrobe sitting in some kind of shoddy fast-food bar thingy having a monologue about the non-events of the week is not funny.
