How many people actively play their nation(s)?

I'm curious about this. I've been around a long time--a looooooong time. Long enough to remember Marathon and Parratoga. Long enough to have been allies with the Palestinian Empire and to witness the flamefest that was any thread Labrador was involved in. Ignore my relatively recent nation birthdate--I was here when Eutrusca was a n00b in a previous life. In fact, if you were to add up my current posts with the ones I had before, I'd be somewhere in the 16,000 range. And there are folks here who can verify that without releasing my former identity--I had some problems with assholes attacking my girlfriend on my personal site and I decided to return incognito.
But that's not the point of the thread. When I first started here, I was tremendously active in the running of my nation. I was a UN rep, and sought the advice of my fellow region members before voting. I thought hard about my dilemmas before choosing an option. But since I started this nation, I've been less interested--I check in to keep my nation alive, but that's about it. I'm in it for General, and the occasional side trip to Moderation to see if I've gotten in trouble. :D
So I'm curious--how active are you in the Nationstates side of this?
P.S. If you think you know who I was and you want confirmation, tg me and I'll let you know if you're right.
I've only ever dealt with the issues and lately I havent' even been doing that.
I deal with both issues every day. If there's more to running my nation I don't even know what it is.
I know who you weeeeeeeeeeeeeeeere :p
I used to RP a fair bit, but I didn't really find it all that much fun after a few months, so I migrated here to general. Oh, and I was also a UN rep once upon a time. I still answer all my issues in-game though, and i'm trying to work my way up to at least a top-10 ranking in something. Why not? :p

Not in months, 6 billion people is too big for a country anyways.

The pointless futility of all human endeavour. That's why not.
I have my phases, where I am quite active (and found a pretty cool region mind you), but then sometimes I just come to chat, and make suggestive comments at Dakini, (who is awesome)...
Not to mess up your thread, but the two of you should come visit a quite intriguing discussion taking place at:

Well, my previous nations died out because I just didn't care although with this nation I've been a little bit better.
I'll go in the UN forums and debate over things I really like or dislike, I'm more involved with regional politics (being the re-found founder and all), and I've become a little more active in General.
Although, lately I've stopped Telegramming back and forth with the people I was and I'm not posting as often.
The pointless futility of all human endeavour. That's why not.
Eh, fair point. If I actually had to do it for whatever reason, i'd be too lazy to. Go figure.

I do my issues and pretty much, that's that. There are way too many regions to choose from to make an intelligent choice, and besides, you have to get the support of someone you don't have any clue who they are to get in, and besides, if I don't like 'em, I wouldn't join their region anyway. So I freelance. Did join the U.N. once, didn't like it much. Did not like the laws the were passing, and I was just one lone voice of reason crying out against the gale. Much like the real U.N., actually. I did start my own region, which is still out there, gathering dust. (Speleopower Alliance)
I'm in it for the forums at this point.

I'm fairly active in Gameplay. :p
Although to a lesser extent now that I don't have to maintain a high endocount and watch the UN Resolutions for my region.
I actually have an in depth story explaining my nation’s changes over the course of the last (RL) year. It’s all in my head and I probably have enough information to start future tech RPing. Damn this education and its time consumption.:p

I did have a couple nations at one point like three or so years ago, but stopped soon after. Then I just started again almost a year ago (obviously) and haven't really done issues for months until just the past several days. However, I never RP nor am I in the UN and probably never will be, but who knows.

I mainly do the UN - the actual UN, not Gameplay. Even got a resolution on abortion to my name. Though one many Generalites would be especially appreciative of.

I make sure to answer the issues but when you get the same ones constantly, you don't need to think before choosing.

I do my issues on Smunkeeville and one of my puppets, the other puppet I just check in on when I need to, and pick at random on the issues. LOL.
I don't really have the time to invest in doing much else, maybe I shouldn't hang around General so often.

I've been here for quite a while, but haven't done much other than lurk and deal with my nation's issues... Never was interested in RPing, and when the UN started passing just some stupid stuff I quit that too.

I do my issues and things, and I'm the UN deligate, so I vote on those, but I don't really get involved in debate or RP at all, just for lack of motivation. It's much more fun to come here and putz around in General than take things seriously. :fluffle:

i do my issues and stuff - im aiming for a top ten just ONCE!
i wouldnt mind RPing but it sounds like a lot of work, and id most likely get kicked off the computer by someone once i got started...wish i didnt have to share...
im in the un - the only time i tried to make an informed decision, i had to go through something like 350 pages of thread to see what people were trying to say. now i just go on my instincts.
and probably like most people here, i spend waaay more time on general than my nation

Eutrusca was a n00b?
Until about 5 months ago i was doing Sport Rping but you know how it is.
General got in the way and Political Commitments...
I login to my nation twice daily to answer the issues, then scan Gameplay, NationStates, and International Incidents. After that I usually just stop or go to General.

I don't even know how you 'play' the game properly; and I turned off issues after I started getting ones I'd seen before.
I just like General; I think the manner in which everyone joined (i.e. they wanted a little country to control) makes for a more interesting set of people than the average internet forum.

Well, for me, playing the game meant responding to the issues faithfully and being involved in the UN. Now it means checking in often enough so that my nation doesn't die. For other people it involved RP and indepth analyses of economy, military strength, etc--I have a life.

I get one issue every weekday, which I look at, just so that the state doesn't choose some random answer. That's happened before. It wrecked my nation.
I'm pretty busy with exams at the moment, and even though I'm in charge of my region, I'm afraid it's dying. :( But it's not really like anybody else has lots of time in the region either...
But yes, perhaps if I was out 'recruiting' instead of on general, things would be a little better for my region...

My former nation did a little of that. In the beginning. Rescuing Jews from Stolzland. But now I only adress the issues and thats it.

I've been here for a fair old while now (in my previous incarnation since just before the switch to jolt), and I used to run a region of 6, and was fairly active in the UN. Then it became full of navel gazing, and I switched to General - same debates, less formalities, more spam.
So far, I've just looked at the issues. I'm thinking about trying an RP, but it's a little intimidating for a newbie like me, and my time is limited. I've also thought about joining the UN, but I don't want to risk messing up my nation with their stuff.
I address the issues, and sometimes I'll write things about my nation (history, etc.)...I also change the population statistic from billion to trillion to fit in with my nation's role as an ecumenopolis on its planet.

I've been writing a very detailed and complex NS wiki entry for about 6 months that is nowhere close to being completed. I'd RP, but I am far to controlling to let my nation be involved in anything that isn't 100% controlled by myself.

I tried to start by making the general entry for my nation, but everything I write makes me want to write the supporting articles about all the important people and places within my nation. So I've got about forty or fifty articles in varying stages of productions.

Yeah; it gets even worse when I change things significantly and have to retcon my older articles to conform to the new ones. So, I've got 12 or so articles under construction but another 4 or 5 need to be retconed...I'll get them done soon, though.

I think I've finally gotten everything under control. I did what you did, then I decided to start at the beginning and write everything chronologically. I'm like a quarter of the way through my history, but I hopefully shouldn't have to retcon anything. Though it's impossible to eliminate the need entirely.

Definitely; I made the initial mistake of starting in the present and moving back, but then I decided to make some pretty major changes in the present
regarding my government, and it was all thrown in to disorder. Since then, I've stuck with less government-sensitive articles like corporations and cities, but I'm going to write Vetalia some day in the future.

Oh, I had to dump pretty much everything I had written when I decided I wanted to model my nation strongly on the Roman Empire and not on the corporation nation that I'd originally envisioned it.

Mine was the exact opposite; Vetalia started as a single Roman Empire-esque nation on one continent but evolved in to a futuristic city-planet in a larger galactic republic (like Coruscant or Trantor), and that meant a pretty significant change in everything about it.

I did for a while, mostly in the UN because it intrigued me. But I thought it was a self-regulated body that we roleplayed. So I campaigned for a vote against a measure because it didn't meet with a standard elected earlier. A mod decided I was asking for mod intervention even though I wasn't. He wouldn't let it go no matter how I tried to explain that I wasn't ask for his help and that I was trying to play the game, roleplaying the UN. He kept dominating the debate, killed the whole deal. He said that the text of the proposals where meaningless and it was all about the plus-minus' that the proposals gave UN members, which struck me as lame. If we couldn't compell each other to self enforce the rules (which meant that nations could defy the UN and then that would be roleplayed, that seemed intriguing. Seemed a lot more interesting than 'war') then it just seemed stupid. After that I stopped playing my nation. Now I barely ever solve my issues.
That, and my nation name does prevent a certain degree of 'serious' gaming...
I used to get TGs from people who would say "War!" or "I'm invading you!" and I usually just responded with something silly to indicate I wasn't interested. Now that my nation is so old and populous I don't think newbies are as prone to try and pick me out of a crowd.
Never! I used to take the issues seriously, then for a while I decided I'd go C.R.A.Z.Y. and become an evil dictator. Then I forgot to log in and my nation died. Then, er, I came back. I feel kinda sorry for all the poor neglected Splangians, so I'm looking after them again now. but I've never taken UN stuff seriously, or RP'd or owt like that.

I actually RP this nation and another one I have quite a bit on Earth V. I've done some with this nation and quite a bit with my other on the general NS Earth in the past but haven't RP'd much there lately. I need to actually spend more time there than I do in General, however, I have discovered that when it comes to General I can log off anytime I want, but I can never leave. ;)

I still get those TGs once in a while. They amuse me. I usually respond with some official declaration from my government stating that their nation had been selected for annexation. I play it like when Hitler annexed Czechoslovakia and pretended like everyone wanted him to be there.
