Will Bush appoint an heir apparent? Will Rice become Bush’s VP?

There was some speculation on FOX last week that Cheney will resign after the 06 elections. That would allow Bush the opportunity to appoint a new VP who would then be the heir apparent and the next Republican candidate. There was further speculation that Bush would choose Rice as his VP which would give the people the opportunity to see how she would act if elected President.

What do you think? Will Cheney resign and will Bush appoint Rice? If Rice does become VP on 06, will she win the election in 08?

cheney SHOULD resign. bush wont ask him to, but he should insist on it.

i dont know who bush would appoint to replace him but it SHOULD be the person the party most wants to run for president in '08

it would be fun if it were rice, but she has so little political experience i cant see her being able to put together a good campaign in '08

National security advisor and now Secretary of State gives a person a lot of political experience. I think she would be very good at setting some international polocies as President. I don't think she would be all that bad setting domestic polocies either.

As far as the picture goes, yes the President is suposed to set international policy and the Secretary of State is suposed to carry out that policy. If the SS didn't carry out the President's agenda he/she should be fired. So, I find the cartoon a little amusing but not offensive. (Don't swallow that toung stuck in that cheek.:))

she has experience doing an important goverment job.

what she doesnt have is experience running for office. she doesnt have a group of people who have worked to get her elected, she doesnt have experience with campaign speeches, working the crowds, kissing babies. she isnt a very dynamic public speaker.

the only way she could make it through the primaries is if karl rove quits when cheney does and he starts working for rice behind the scenes.

It's possible that Cheney will resign and that Rice would take his place, but it won't be to help her run for the Presidency. She'd be as much of a placeholder as Cheney is, no matter how many talking heads are proclaiming that she'd be the unbeatable candidate.

Rice might make a terrific general election candidate--I say might because there's a reason first time candidates don't generally do well gunning for the Presidency first time out of the gate: it's tough, and it's very treacherous ground. Most politicians who win the Presidency have proven they can win elections in the past. Ike was an exception, but he was such a massive public figure that I think he dwarfed the competition. Rice is no Ike. She might be a natural--there's no way of knowing unless she runs--but the odds are long.

And they're longer because, as I've said practically every time this comes up, she has to run in primaries where her natural base--African-Americans--doesn't vote, and in places where the Republican activist base will be openly hostile. Throw in that the people who are already gunning for the nomination aren't going to clear the field for her, and the proposition becomes even more of a longshot.

How refreshing, I think I will vote for her or someone like her.

I'm not so sure that African-Americans are her "natural base." Except for her heratige, she has more in common with mainstream Republicans than she does with a majority of African-Americans.

Wasn't the brother supposed to be the heir apparent? Or has GW screwed that up also?

Haven’t you heard? Nazism is genetic.
'Tis why we must all keep a careful eye on the Germans.
Why do you think we still have military bases there?

Shrubby should just get it over with and fire Cheney. Then appoint his favorite horse to the job.

If it was good enough for Caligula, our 'president' should have no problems with it either.
