Capes are cool

I don't know why we don't wear capes anymore; how can you not look cool in a cape? We oughta bring back capes to the fashion scene, who's with me?

I think some climates would make them more natural than others. I bet you could get away with a cape/cloak in New York, Chicago, maybe Seattle...

In Vegas, the Revised City Ordinances make it unlawful to wear a cape in public unless said cape has sufficient sparkles, glitter, and/or sequins to give it a luminescence not less than that of one headlight of a 57 Cadillac bouncing off of a showgirl.

I like wearing capes. Well, cloaks really. And I know other people who wear them too. And I bought some crushed blue faux-velvet cloth to make a new one, but I just haven't done it yet.

I have a cape. My friend bought it for me as a Christmas present a few years ago. But I can only wear it when I'm being a superhero because otherwise I feel a bit foolish.

Capes do make a fashion comeback every once in a while and then they die off.

Because I do wear capes and cloaks as part of my Renaissance Faire persona, I can tell you that, while they look cool, they are inconvenient as hell to handle. You either have a tie or pin holding them closed so your hands will be free to work - so you're choking or having a pin jammed in your throat and your hands still aren't free because your pushing the damned thing out of the way of what you're trying to do. Or you hold them closed with your hand, which prevents you from doing any work. If it's windy, they're all over the place, which sort of negates the whole reason for their existence, which is to keep you warm and dry. If they're hooded, the hood is either in your eyes or falling off. You can't get into a car easily in a cape, because they're voluminous, they get in the way of steering, shifting gears, accelerating, braking, other people.

So, yes, they look cool and sexy and yes, they are totally impractical. In the long run a nice black trench coat looks just as good and is much more practical

I had a black, full length wool cape with a hood that I wore as a winter coat for four or five years, till it wore out. I made it when I was in England for a year, and once wore it to Stonehenge, where the tourists all wanted to take my picture and asked me if I was a druid. I told them no, druids wore white capes.

Boredom leads to stupid ideas. Stupid ideas lead to capes. Capes lead to doom.

Capes are, in essence, fancy cloaks. Further more, they're not all that practical.

That said, I have no idea what I'd look like wearing one: having never done so before, I am open to the possibility that it might look good. If it does, I'll likely don one every day.

If it came with superpowers, I'm in... otherwise...

Of course, if we revised the Roman Legions, that would be cool too. Make me an officer, and I'll wear the cape.

Cloaks are cool. And daggers.

But nooo. BAN KNIVES! They're danger-us!

Capes? Sure why not...and while we're at it we could go for robes-gowns for men - that way when it's hot men are free to let their jollies jangle. :D

Too much heat isn't good for the 'lil swimmers'.

Capes are just jackets without sleeves or multiple clasps... they're obsolete.
That's why you rarely see them anymore, just as one rarely sees Wellington boots, wool knickers (exc: golf courses), or stovepipe hats.

What's wrong with stovepipe hats!? I find them rather fetching...

Nothing wrong with them... same as there is nothing wrong with capes. But do you know anyone who wears one regularly? :)

Hmm. I voted for capes being good. But now I'm not so sure.

Still, a cape *would* look good with my menacing hat.

Silk capes, feathered chapeaus and swords.
Three great things that go great together!

Thanks for the link. Most of the stuff there looked like it would work for Faire. I'll post the link to my fellow guildmembers.
