No, this (http://www.frithjof.de/asterix_asterix-obelix2.jpg) is what a real superhero should look like.

Those two are Captain Euros. We don't need another one.

Anybody else notice the similarities between Dr. D.Vider (http://www.captaineuro.com/index.htm) and Nick Fury?

Very subtle casting of the U.S. intelligence as evil. Now if only I knew whether that was good or bad.

They're Asterix and Obelix, and they live in small village in Aremorica in Gaul.

I'm American and its a French comic character. Need I say more? :p
Asterix is less well known in the United States and Japan, which both have strong comic book traditions of their own.
I always thought it was a poorly drawn Hermes. The messanger god, if I got the name wrong.

European comics are infinitely superior to American ones. Tintin, Asterix... all the good stuff comes from across the Atlantic.

For that matter, most good literature comes from Europe, with only a few exceptions. Maybe it's the thousands of years of history.

Why, he is demonstrating the correct way to mount a pig, obviously.

More like Captain Recycling.
"Remember kids, recycling is good for mother earth."

Or "The PeeWee Baseball Coach" - teaching kids the values of teamwork one summer at a time.

Really, Captain Planet looked less gay than this guy.

And what is with that group of people and the grey dog?
And what the hell kind of bad guys are these:
"Dr. D Vider" - Why are all bad guys doctors? Is there a doctorate in world domination I don't know about?
"Junior" - "an only child" What the hell? Its a spoilt brat bad guy!
"Mala" - the fucking carnie
"Minot" - a midget carnie
"The Twins" - Apparently Dr. D Vider needs to see a psychiatrist because he keeps hiring evil henchmen from the fucking carnival.

I bet their secret hideout is a carnival tent, pitched right next to the Twelve Stars ferris wheel hideout.

Captain Canada was every bit as cheesy and nauseatingly jingoistic as Captain America. We had a bunch of other earlier superhero comics come out during WWII: Nelvana, Johnny Canuck, and Canada Jack. Personally, I prefer Vindicator from the X-Men.

Remember that Superman was the idea of a Canadian, who cowrote the comic. Personally, Superman and Samurai Jack are my two favourite super heroes. Both don't have stupid sidekicks for one thing.

Just thought I'd throw in my support for European comics. I say that... well I really mean British comic writers who generally were working for American companies but oh well.

Garth Ennis - Preacher
Alan Moore - V, Watchmen, LXG, From Hell
Neil Gaiman - Sandman
Warren Ellis - Authority, Planetary, Global Frequency, Transmetropolitan

I salute you :fluffle: :D

Hey! Dredd has superpowers: He has the power of not taking any shit from anyone ever.

And that's a far better 'power' than being a natural linguist and IT specialist.
Ohhh....What cool powers. He can work at an IT help desk, solving XP windows problems in any language.

Well, the interesting thing about him, was that his powers were tied into Britian herself.
If he was away from Britian for too long, his powers would fade.
Seems Merlin was the one who gave them to him, and if he was away from the magic supposedly inherent within Britian...

Very noble guy.
Good looking, well to do...a bit arrogant, and steadfastly loyal to Queen and Country.
Definately a leader type, but also a tad too willing to sacrifice himself for the greater good..maybe a bit of a martyr complex.

He became very close with the X-Men, and his sister Psylocke, became one of them for a time.
(Shes a mutant, he is not.)

Afterwards, he lead his own team comprised mostly of former X-Men called X-Calibur, based in England.
It was very good series, until Marvel made the big mistake of "cross-time capers".
Jumping about alternate realities and whatnot made for early burnout of the series.

Oh - sounds a pretty good guy then. But I suppsoe that's ahrdly surprising is it :D ;) Of course, it must have been a bit of a bummer about the whole not being away from Britain too long - his holidays must have been a bit brief.

Well, Marvel made a serious attempt to make him seem British.
They succeeded, but were a little stereotypical...

I mean...Merlin?

BUT...A guy who can lift 90 tons or so, and fly to see Leeds beat Manchester United, and then lift a pint after saving the world..aint such a bad guy.
