Simple question. Do you watch WWE? Public poll on the way.

My roommate in college did, so I would catch pieces while I was getting high.

Haven't seen it since.

Used to (although that might have been before it was WWE)

I voted 'Yes I love it' Though that's a bit strong. More like amused respect. One of my good friends is a pro wrestler in the WWE. Through him, I have met many other pro wrestlers and people in the industry. One thing that people don't realize is how many people it takes to run the business that never appear on camera.

As with most wrestling 'finishing moves', It's more show than substance. But it still hurts like hell to drop six feet flat onto your back. :p

I used to..

But it became very stale, even to me, and I was a hard-core wrestling fan.
WWE wasted a lot of talented guys, by pushing the older, far less impressive workers, who had name recognition.
Thus, always the same faces, doing the same old stuff.

So LG, whos your wrestler friend?

See, here we enter a grey area. There are rules in place on me about giving out friends and family member's personal information. My significant other(who is armed) is a bit paranoid about privacy.

But as this person is famous, and in the public spotlight, I'm not too concerned.

So, until I know for sure if I'm allowed to say more, I'll just give a hint:

He's an olympic gold medalist. ;)

I haven't watched it on a regular basis in ages, probably back when it was still WWF. Maybe a bit after it, when they had the whole 'Get the F out' thing.

Yes, I'm not ashamed to say that I watch WWE: Raw every Monday night and it is great. I know that it's fake, I know that most of the actors are bad, and I know that it appeals to the lowest common denominator. The storylines are incredibly bizarre, and women, gays, and anybody not representing the American bible belt are mercilessly exploited for entertainment value. Why do I like it, you may ask?

Well, I don't know. I just do!

Hell no, when you get down to it, it's a bunch of muscular guys in thongs manhandling each other. How gay is that?

Notice how most of the people who watch that crap are "look at me, I'm a man!" types.

I guess it could be. But mostly men watch it. Now, I could understand a man watching the female version of the WWE (whatever that may be), but a man watching the WWE is unforgivably homosexual to me. Not that I hate homosexuals, mind you, but I digress.

My point is that I find it deliciously ironic that the men who watch WWE are "tough-guy" and "don't mess with me" types because their ignorance either renders them oblivious to the inherent homosexuality of the WWE, or because they are all closet homos who are unsecure about themselves, kind of like Fred Phelps, but I digress again.

Well, I actually felt bad that Carlito didn't get in the ladder match. Sure, he's a heel, but he's so bad at it that he's good, you know? As for who will win, I barely know who's in it, since it's now an interpromotional match. I don't watch Smackdown, so I'll have to see who the contenders are before I guess. The one guess I WILL hazard is that the winner will be from Smackdown, or they wouldn't have made it interpromotional in the first place.

I am not interested in it, as I find it insubstantial and theatre.

However;

1) It is theatre and most forms of entertainment (novels, theatre etc) are fake. Fargo famously had a first slide saying it was a true story to add effect. So it is with WWE.

2) So, it must be bad because poor, white people like it? That does not seem like a reason.

3) Is there any evidence they are stupid? I am not sure how an increased IQ would improve the entertainment.

4) A quarter? Closer to four quarters I would have thought.

I watch it for the comedy. There are three ways to get into the WWE: physical massiveness, willingness to get beat to a pulp, and personality. Guys like the Rock, Edge and Christian, and others have always filled the comedy quota to keep me interested, even when the matches themselves aren't anything special.

They discourage all drug use now, since they've decided that they really don't like their investments being buried six feet down. Usually if they're caught with it they get reprimanded and suspended, and put on a program for a while.

Would you imagine there is plenty of steroid taking while building up, and then getting off them when they sign up to WWE?

And there was that guy they had on at some stage a few years ago with only one leg, Zack something. Let's be honest, he was there for the hilarity of a tiny guy with one leg attacking a big six foot tank of a guy.

I'd imagine that happens, but they still have to clear their medical checks, so they still need to work out like crazy between the time that they're tested positive and when they actually sign the contract. The things they do in the ring however, are less about how massively strong you are (aside from the seven foot tall guys) and more about choreography, agility, and the ability to coordinate with one or more opponents. It's like ballet for guys, really.

Yes, although I do not find it entertaining, I do not lack respect for the people who perform. I agree that strength is not as important as the other aspects you mention - that is the impression I have - however bulk and particuarly the definition of the physique are clearly important and possibly many are beyond the scope of several push ups.

There does seem to be snobbery around the entertainment. It is brainless fun, but them enjoying an orchestral performance does not require intellect.

I like the hardcore wrestling better than WWE. WWE is so boring now adays. Japanese wrestling promotions like FMW and AJPW are good. FMW was good because of all of the hardcore matches like electric cage matches, exploding barbwire matches and other matches of that sort.

If you want good wrestling that is like WWE, check TNA or ROH.
