It is official, It has rained a half-inch in the last 8 hours and is expected to rain another 1/2 by the end of the day.

This is significant because it has not rained here in Phoenix in 142 days.

!YAY!!!! It should hopefully rain more here too, 'bout 100 miles south of you in Tucson. It rained a few days ago, but not enough to count. I believe we were well over the 100 day mark as well. 'Tis very cloudy and exciting.

The previous record had been 101 days, even cacti and desert animals were being harmed by this drought.

don't worry it's almost monsoon season, I remember living in Tucson and praying for the monsoon it was great (although my swamp cooler didn't work a lick during that time of year :()

 Isn't your monsoon season around the same time as ours? Like mid July? And yeah, swamp coolers blow, I hated that thing. ]

Oh wow, I just realized you're not the OP, my bad.

We don't have monsoon here. When I lived in Tucson (and yeah it was only like 2 years) there would be a monsoon in like mid May I thought, I just realized it's March though so not even that is very close, although come to think of it, I remember the first rain fell on the day I had my first child, so yeah July......gosh, my memory is bad today, sorry.

The summer monsoon hasnt actually resuted in phoenix getting much rain in years and years.

I remember when I was a kid seeing huge thunderstorms with lots of lightning in the summer, but it just has happened for a while. Since 1999 or so Phoenix has been in a prolonged drought.

Last year, we got almost all of our rain between jan-march (more rain than we had recieved in the previous 4 years combined, IMMSMC).

On second thought, it did rain last summer, at least a few times.
