Former White House Official arrested for theft

A former White House official was arrested on Thursday and charged with theft by conducting illegitimate returns. But he did it in such a smart yet simple, "why didn't I think of that?" way.

Police believe Allen would buy items, take them to his car, then return to the store with his receipt. He would select the same items, then take them to the store return desk and show the receipt from the first purchase. Using that method, he would receive credit for the second items on his credit cards, Burnett said.
...
Allen was the No. 2 official in the Health and Human Services Department when Bush nominated him in April 2003 to the 4th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals in Richmond, Va. Bush nominated him to the court again a year later, but Allen never received a Senate vote.
...
In early 2005, Bush hired Allen as a domestic policy adviser. He resigned abruptly on Feb. 9, saying he wanted to spend more time with his family.

Yes, Mr. Bush, you sure have restored honor and integrity to the White House.

The items he allegedly received fraudulent refunds for include clothing, a Bose theater system and stereo equipment. Some purchases were as little as $2.50.lol, that's just funny right there.

Dumbass. If you're going to do that, you do it with relatively expensive items, and only a few times, not 25 times. He was asking to get caught.

Now comes the lecture on how "libruhls don't understand thrift" coupled with the "historical qualifications of conservative fiduciary policy" rant :D

President Bush did not do the theft, you cant blame him for this one just because he nominated and hired the guy, there is no way he would have know this guy would do that.

Or maybe he did? That's not the point here. The point is that I knew it'd probably be either post #3 or 4 that someone would bring this up, and I was right :D

Oh, come on, the republicans are like the "mile-high club" of klept. And you know it! They even have a newsletter, broadcast often on FauX and Limblob, distributed under the title "Talking Points" or "Bullet Points", and murmurred incessantly as though a mantra by millions of idiot minions!
To be fair, Bush is distancing himself *ever* further from EVEN the republicans. He's got a stink that just don't wash off, even if it is occasionally mislabeled. :D

Having worked retail, that's a common trick. Caught people at least once a month on that one.

In fact, I believe that tactic is used in the first 20 minutes of Better Luck Tomorrow.

But, I have to agree, at worst it just goes to bad judgment of an appointees character. There are things that Bush is directly responsible for that I'm more interested in.

Democrats have not done the same or worse in government when they have been in power or congress,
yes they have.

Do they just simply reveal themselves?

I was under the impression that Bush could discern a man's character just by staring him in the eye for 20 minutes (and tell if he's a still a virgin, too). Isn't that how he decided Vladimir Putin was one of the good guys, by the shining glare of his pure and wonderful soul? So I guess souls have nothing to do with character flaws then.

I'm going to have to call your bluff. I'm not saying Democrats aren't stain-free, that couldn't be further from the truth, but Republicans tend to play a lot dirtier.

I'm not talking about democrats, thankfully. I think there's plenty of other threads that do just that ... talk about other unrelated things. :D

I don't like dems either, FYI, i just think there's an entirely DEEPER qualification to the amount of moral bankruptcy that republicanism substantiates. The ones with integrity need to start determining distance and honour, and surprisingly  enough, it's VERY FEW and VERY FAR between.

I agree. I don't know of a single Democratic politician who ever got caught trying to run $2.50 retail scams. I mean, that's just pathetic.

No, the mile high club of klept is showcased by a former national security director entering the national archives to make a stayfree maxi pad out of classified documents and filling his socks to catch the overflow.

Loss prevention agents. And, the registers are at the front. If you don't walk from the door to the counter with thier return, it's a sign.

But mostly it's loss prevention agents. They'll either see 'selection' or watch a person come back and pick up stuff they just picked up. Once I actually watched someone pick up the item in front of me and bring it up and try and return it. I've also watched people switch packages. I always wanted to just start insulting them, but I instead acted like they had inadvertently picked up an item that was in the wrong package. With the returning deal the LP guys would walk up and ask for the reciept, then yank the stuff out of thier hands and tell them not to come back.

That's "Stayfree brand maxi-pad(tm)" to you. And I don't remember Eagleberger getting arrested for that one. So if you count getting caught as its own form of failure, the rightwing is still in the lead for World's Most Spectacular Screw-ups.

That would have been Sandy Berger when he stuffed his pants and socks with documents relevant to the 9-11 commissions investigation. Both sides have some very corrupt and stupid individuals however, ol Sandy tops all I've seen since Kennedy. Actually petty thieves and shoplifters are very common but it should never be surprising. After all politics are second nature to all sorts of con artists, thieves, spies and traitors.

No it was Sandy Berger, Clinton's advisor without a doubt. Even though you are incorrect, I must admit that petty theft ranks any political appointee right up there with the dumbest criminals, but the sheer degree of audacity ranks Sandy among the all time leaders in the field. ;)
