He doesn’t have the Bond look. It doesn’t matter how “hot” he is.

I think the same thing every time I look at him. Yeah, he's not bad-looking, but he just doesn't say Bond to me. At all. Sorry.

My favourite Bond has always been Pierce Brosnan. ;)

He was excellent in Layer Cake. What the next Bond film needs is a story, not a bunch of strung together special effects scenes.

What? You didn't buy Bond handling Nuclear Rods without protection?

I'd put him as second. He’s done a really good job, but Sean Connery was the best.

He's hot. But I agree with Undelia that he doesn't have the Bond look. That, and the man can't drive a stick shift. That's just plain wrong!

Neither could Bronson. He fucking stalled in a parking lot.

That's just sad.

Call me old fashioned, but *real men* (tm) know how to drive stick. ;)

Clive Owen turned it down, I hear, which proves he isn't Bond material either -- Bond is smart as well as macho. ;)

It's in the eye of the beholder, I guess. I looked at Brosnan, and I kept wondering why this little old lady was driving so fast.

As far as I'm concerned there have been no Bonds at all since Sean Connery -- just a series of Austin Powers wannabees. I'll give Craig a chance. How much worse could he be? At least he's cut.

If we give bond a sex change Natalie Portman could play Jane Bond.

They're not real men. They're actors. They don't have to know how to drive stick as long as they've got film editors.

(PS: Heath Ledger is not a gay cowboy and Orlando Bloom doesn't have pointy ears.)

(EDIT: PPS: Did you know that Sean Connery's first major role was in "Darby O'Gill and the Little People"? That's right, a musical about leprechauns. How's that for destroying the magic? ;) )

Daniel Craig might not be the best choice for the next James Bond. Not because the actor is afraid of guns, has a drinking problem, or admitted during shooting of Casino Royale that he couldn’t drive standard. He also got his front teeth knocked out during a stunt scene that went wrong. He doesn’t have the right look. Bond isn’t supposed to be a blond for starts. Granted I’d like a grittier Bond, with less one-liners and more acting, but that’s more to do with the writing than the acting. Craig was good in Layer Cake and Munich.

Hugh Jackman apparently turned the role down. Personally, I think Jude Law would have been great for the role. Daniel Craig is having a rough ride in this role and there is even a popular website protesting him being cast as bond:

Personally, I’m going to see the movie and make up my own mind.

I suppose that’s true. I should just be happy some creative executive didn’t cast Lucy Lawless as the next Janet Bond…

I think he will be one of the single worst bonds ever. Pierce redefined what and how bond should look and act like (respectivly). Ive seen this "replacement" actor in past movies, and while he has skill.. he lacks the savvyness needed. Ive very low expectiations, and as Bond is my single move favorite action figure, im am seriously dismayed by the choice!

Hugh Jackman!? Jude Law!? Grittier!? Than what? A fluffernutter sandwich? Man, it really is in the eye of the beholder.

It should have been Clive Owen, but if the man would rather waste his life in stupid romance bombs, what can we do? I wish George Clooney could fake being British. Now that's a man, baby.

I yield to no one in my personal admiration for Pierce Brosnan, but as Bond? Feh! He looked old. He looked weak. He looked small. He lacked humor. He lacked savoir faire. He seemed to hate his job. He didn't even look like he enjoyed the martinis. Who would want to be such a man? Who would want to go to bed with such a man?

I’m actually kind of glad that Hugh Jackman turned the role down. It would be like hired Kevin Sorbo to be the next James Bond…ewwww. I really think Jude Law would be a great James Bond. Russel Crow would be even better but I don’t think that they can afford him.

Are you male, by any chance? And heterosexual? Because you and I have very different ideas of what constitutes a Bond, and I'm telling you, as a heterosexual woman, no -- just, please, no.

Poor Daniel Craig. Now I'm seeing what he's up against. "...This who can gratify / for who can guess?"*

*Alexander Pope talking about the impossibility of satisfying the expectations people have in their heads.

Granted, as a heterosexual guy, I probably have different ideas of the James Bond character than you do. I thought Pierce Brosnan was probably the best Bond, but he would have been better if he did it when he was younger.
