Pitch Black

I may be one of the very few people who thought that the "Chronicles of Riddick" didn't completely suck.

Yeah, Vin was horrible - but I liked the art direction and costumes. Especially the Armour. And the chick was hot.

Out of that small group of people who didn't think the movie sucked complete ass, I belong to an even smaller group that didn't even know that it was actually a sequel to a movie called "Pitch Black".

Have any of you seen "Pitch Black"? Should I attempt to watch it? Or does it suck even more than the general concensus of suckitude that is applied to "Chronicles".

The reason I ask is that it is rumored that another film will be made completing the suck trilogy that is Riddick. I just can't miss that much suckage - but I need to see part one before part three - cause if I saw part one last - that would suck.

I thank you in advance for your kind advice.

Pitch Black was cool. I thought most people knew it was a sequal. I did teh dailies and cuts of Riddick so I knew it was going to suck before it came out so I never had the displeasure of sitting through the whole thing.

Pitch Black is actually quite good- many call it a good sci-fi B movie... but use that as a compliment!

One of Vin Diesel's few (very few) good roles, good story and some nice plot twists.
Also, the tantalising glimses of how he sees and how it happened are intrigueing... and unsurprisingly led to the sequel/prequel/other movie.

Thanks people - I posted this question on another forum and got pretty similar answers. I read a plot summary and it does seem to be a good flick - I believe I'll pick up the DVD.

Oddly enough, I thought the reverse was true.

I found Pitch Black quite cool and although the massive departure from gritty realism to space fantasy was quite jarring, I really liked the sequel.

All the way through my first viewing I kept thinking: This is pointless. Great ideas, wonderful imagery, terrible execution. But at the end, when he sat on the throne, I realised what I was watching.

Conan the Barbarian IN SPACE!!

A classic example of a sucky movie that got a cult following, it was obvious that the director had looked at the materials available (over muscled, under talented actor, classic evil overlord concepts) and just gone for it. Chronicles was exactly the same, but with a vastly superior effects budget. Essential mindless entertainment.

Actually, I think I liked Chronicles of Riddick better than Pitch Black. Two reasons: the concept of the Necromongers and Crematorium. The idea that a meme could exist and thrive though brainwashing seemed unprecedented and the concept of a planet where sunrise could be that lethal and yet be able to sustain life in the shade, something different.

I liked Pitch Black a little more than the Chronicles, but not much more. They're both fun. :)

I actually really enjoyed Pitch Black and thought it was a surprisingly good Sci-Fi horror flick.

Chronicles was fun, it wasn't anything of a shiny special fancy movie, but it was enjoyable to watch once.

But never, ever, ever watch the animated "Dark Fury" thing. It'll make you want to burn your eyeballs out.

If I seem totally incapable of forming coherent sentences, don't be surprised, I've been writing since three thirty this afternoon, all the while I've been suffering from a headache and stuff.

I really, really liked Pitch Black. The interaction between the characters was very well done, and the visual imagery was interesting. The crash sequence is one of the best ever put on film.

Chronicles of Riddick? Seriously...that film...well, I'll quote someone.

I didn't think it was physically possible, but this both sucks AND blows.

Pitch Black is one of the great SciFi movies... a well deserved automatic classic.

Chronicles has some gorgeous Giger-esque gothic aesthetics, and some nice conceptual touches but... (even though I enjoyed it) it pales beside Pitch Black.

I really liked Pitch Black. It was tight and well directed. Pitch Black was gritty sci fi, in the tradition of the original Alien or Outland.

I didn’t think that the Chronicles of Riddick completely sucked, but it wasn’t a classic for the ages either. Aliens versus Predators, now that sucked.
