I think we ought to do more with the Commonwealth, as it is always good to strengthen ties and co-operation between states. I think if it was organised properly the Commonwealth, with its historical, cutural and linguistic ties could be an organisation involved with development, the promotion of peace and, above all, the advancement of cricket as the dominant sport of the world.

On a note of irrelevance, only nations with former ties to the British Empire are eligible for entry into the Commonwealth, which means that the United States could never join, but the 13 former colonies are eligible for admission. How this eligibility test applies to Mozambique I don't know, nor Cuba (which is apparently interested in the possibility of joining).

So, to answer your question: no, Commonwealth Day means nothing because everyone will ignore it anyway.

What on earth is Commonwealth Day?

I'm a British citizen living in the UK and I don't think I've ever heard of it...I assume it's something to do with the Commonwealth?

A day when we can all reminise of the days of yore. It replaced Empire Day when after the Empire was lost

Not many people do, because St. Patrick's Day is far more enjoyable and falls around the same time ;)

Has Ireland rejoined the Commonwealth whilst I wasn't looking?

Well, there is also a multi-faith service...

Ah, OK, so the benefits of being both British and Irish only really apply when I can celebrate on both the second Monday in March, and the 17th of March?

That's good enough for me :D
