I'll wait for the poll, but the only answer on it should be George Clinton. Without doubt, question, or reservation. George "Starchild" Clinton is the single funkiest person to have ever walked the face of the earth.

He is only seconded by people from his own band. Namely "Bootsy" Collins, Maceo Parker, and Bernie Worrell.

Whilst Clinton is undoubtedly one of the funkiest people ever. he is not starchild1 Starchild ids just one of many characters in the p-funk universe that Clinton plays, and not clinton himself

Got to be Bootsie. He played for James Brown and for George Clinton. He combines the Godfather of Soul's funk with the P-Funk.

I know, but it's my favorite nick for him.

EDIT: And he's practically the father of the term "funk" as we know it, anyway. Sure there were others, I even listen to a few, but no one was as much of a genius at arrangements, production, and overall quality as the long-haired-suckah.

Hey! Why no Issac Hayes on the list? Listen to 'Theme from Shaft' and dare to say it's not THE FUNKIEST SONG EVER.
He also had a song called 'In pursuit of the pimpmobile' and that surely is one of the funkiest song titles ever.

George, always. He was ready to give his ass up for the funk.

NB:- one of my favourite rock and roll stories concerns the guitar riff to "Maggot Brain", where George instructed the geetarist "play it like yo momma just died".

Wonderful track.

If "Funky" meant "always taking acid"...then Leary would win..but as he couldnt play funk if he was handed a cd-player....the man aint funky.

George Clinton+Jimi Hendrix= Funk.

They were the sum total of all funk. Jimi had to die so there would be some funk for others. George is still hogging his share of funk. :p

Backwoods: That's why George is Dr Funkenstein. :D

Would people get pissed off if I questioned Chuck Norris absence in this poll? In fact why don't you just go ahead and make him a default choice on all polls.

 It's got me. Sorry I have to go do some thinking ...
