Aye, you'd have an ion, but meh, it's metal, a few lose electrons moving around never bothers it.
That'd be transmutation, which is alchemy's most difficult (and hence impossible) goal. Alchemy was used for getting the elements and was basically the early version of chemistry, biology and production of new materials.
