My childhood hero died today. Kirby Puckett led the Minnesota Twins to two World Championships. He was only 44 years old.

Thanks Kirby for all the incredible memories. I will always remember that game 6 catch and then the homer.

I just got home... I'd heard he'd had a stroke and was in hospital... I'm sad to hear he died. :( As a Toronto Blue Jays fan from Northwestern Ontario, i'd make more trips to MN to watch them play than to Toronto. :p I always liked watching Kirby play... he was a great player.

This really sucks, considering the last significant thing the media did in his honor was spit in his face for buying his wife a vibrator for christmas. I mean really, who the fuck cares? And why did the media know in the first place?

I was born in Minneapolis, and am a lifelong Minnesota sports fan. I was 4 years old when Kirby helped lead the Twins to their World Series victory over the St. Louis Cardinals. I still have the Wheaties box! I remember being 8 when Kirby hit the homer that kept the Twins in the '91 series against the Atlanta Braves. The guy had talent, and a big heart, and was loved by an entire state.

He was my favorite baseball player. :(

Rest in peace.

Oh...I clicked this link hoping for some pink sphere-related humor...damn that deceptively unrealistic name!
