My teacher was telling us about the Nazis and such and mentioned the "Star of David". I raised my hand and said he was worng: It is the "Shield of David". I got no support from anyone in class and my friend(christian) and another friend(Jewish) both said I was wrong after class and we argued about it. I bet them(sort of unofficiallY) $3000 that I was right. I asked about a dozen people throughout the day and only one person(a Jew born in Israel) agrees with me. Other than that, I have a book that agrees with me. Unfortunately, wikipedia and Google Fight are against me.

So what do you think? Poll coming(please vote what you think or know)

EDIT: I mean what it is, not what it looks like.

It looks like a star to me, not a shield. A shield wouldn't have holes in it, which the symbol does. Now, it's definitely prossible(my neato word that is between probable and possible) that the symbol was placed UPON shields, but the symbol itself looks like a star.

In reference to the Nazis, it is strictly "star" - since that is what the Nazis called it.

In Hebrew it's Shield of David, but in English it's Star of David.

But the English is incorrect. I mean what is correct. It has nothing to do with a star...it just conveniently looks like one. IT's like the Red/Reed sea thing.

It is called the Star of David in English because it is a six-pointed star. However, in Hebrew, it is called the Magen David (Shield of David), because it was the symbol on David's shield.

No it isn't. It's like saying Moses parted the Red Sea(As I said before). It's incorrect. IF you're speaking English, it is only correct to say "Shield of David".

Your argument is sort of like saying the Sword of Jesus or the Plus-Sign of Jesus.

It's "shield."

I prefer the Shuriken of David :D

I am not sure which is actually correct, but I have only ever heard it refered to as 'star'.
