I'm sure by now you've all had your minds utterly changed by the political debates here, so for a change, why not see what pets psychotic people (well, generalites, anyway) have?

That's Bob, my pet rat. He sits on other rats.

This (http://photobucket.com/albums/v667/Kazcaper/?action=view¤t=Christmas2004043.jpg) is a picture of my dog (left) and my cousin's (right) last Christmas. Sadly my cousin's dog died a couple of months ago.
This (http://photobucket.com/albums/v667/Kazcaper/?action=view¤t=Christmas2004010.jpg) is my boyfriend's sister's dog - not much to do with me, I know, but I find him really cute.
Finally, the cat from down the street (http://photobucket.com/albums/v667/Kazcaper/?action=view¤t=DaveDebbiesWedding001.jpg). It is the friendliest cat I've ever met - behaves more like a dog, really. It comes to see us usually about two or three times a week, and has been doing so for about two years; I initially thought it was looking for food, but all it seems to want is some attention :)
Bob is cool, by the way. I would have always loved a rat. Had mice and gerbils in the past as a compromise since my mother irrationally would not let a rat into the house.

I kind of like cats, but dogs really scare me (even the tiny ones O_O). All those teeth, and the barking. But those dogs, even I wouldn't be scared by them :D
Considering they're dogs, that's a compliment coming from me :D

My friend's house looks like a fucking pet store. Four beta fish on the TV thing. The one wall lined with like six terrariums for snakes, and one more on the ground for some lizards.

EDIT: my sister also has a rat, who is older, larger and heavier. Bob sits on his head. The other rat gets mad, shakes Bob off and pins him down :D

Funny story behind that. I had my own apartment here in Dublin for a while (insanely expensive luxury). Then a friend of mine broke up with her boyfriend and found an apartment close to my own. We lived like that for a few months, then one night I had a dream that we had a beautiful house together, and a cat called "Rakete", who was grey and had a striped tail... imagine a lemur. That colour.
Well, the next day I told my friend, who told me she had been thinking that sharing a house would be so much more comfortalbe and less expensive. Two months later, we had a great house here, and shortly after that, we went to the RSPCA and found her... Rakete the cat. :D

Names can be translated?
Demented Hamsters
07-03-2006, 09:09
Well, think about it. Lots of names are translated.
eg.
Wilhelm = William = Liam
Tatyana (Tatiana) = Tanya
Peter = Pyotr = Pita <--Maori version
Juan = John
Michael = Mikhail
There's lot more but I think you get the idea.
Mariehamn

In my opinion, its more like taking one's name and trying to find a corresponding name that best fits, even though it may not be a glove. Most East Asians I know have taken upon an English alias/nickname to not even bother with their actual name. Like Billy for Pae-Sung Lee Chan (or some authentic East Asain name).
Examples:
Välteri Kokkonen <-- Finnish / Lars Mattsson <--Swedish / Guillermo Rodriguiez <-- Spanish / John Smith <-- English
I'd be hard pressed to find corresponding names for the first three. But the last would end up being "Juan" in Spansih, like in your example.
"Hola, soy Juan Smith!"
However, that's not his name. His mum and pa gave him "John Smith" or he legally changed it later on. Its his name, one cannot translate it, in a sense. His passport says "John Smith", the credit card is registered in "John Smith", he was baptised as "John Smith" and so forth.
Its more like a Spanishization of John. Or it existed before hand. With Michael and Mikhail, the name's just variations of one another, and not really an actual translation.
It likens more to finding a good nickname so that the native don't salughter your actual name. So, that way, one could say names can be translated. Its just my two cents.

Thanks. He's a ridgeback/mastiff x (with a bit of alsatian too, I think). Looks the part, but in reality a big softy, I might add (takes after his owner obviously).
As for the trees/plants, my dad has always prefered using native plants (other than the norfolk pine in the background, but that was an old xmas tree from when I was a kid).
Hard to believe that photo was taken in the middle of summer. NZ really is a green place.

I don't have any pets because I'm an irresponsable bastard, but my roommates have cats.
One is a bowling-ball sized black fur ball named Diablo. He has fangs that extend out of his mouth like a sabre-toothed tiger, but obviously not as big. Like most cats, tons of personality. Since he lives on the side of a mountain in a redwood forest, he's pretty relaxed.
Then there is the white short-haired cat that is also large (though not as fat) named Olorin. He's a talky little bastard. He grew up in a commune so I think he's used to getting what he needs done by a combination of enginuity and meowing until someone helps him out. He'll work things open on his own, get things down, etc. He was stand-offish for the first month he was here, but when I came back from my last gig all of a sudden I was his best buddy, jumping on my lap and following me around etc. Pets, kids and old people love me.
