Once again, you can blame StraughnJohn Silver for this one.

So it seems Straughn has given quite a few nicknames...Honky in Black comes to mind first, and Peech refering to me as Sarky (which just makes me think of "sparky".

So what are your nicknames? Both in real life and on NS

Mine are Bronto, Spike, Boobs, and appearently Sarky if that catches

the stories:

Bronto: A few years ago I was drinking at a friends house. Well, I should say my short friend was drinking, the other two of us were sober. So my friend hits his head on a slanted part of the celing. I called him a midget alcoholic, and he responded with "sorry we aren't all brontosauruses with some super control over our giant necks". It just kinda stuck

Spike: A couple places. first is me and two of my friends are really good at teaming up on people. One is bump, one is set, and I'm spike. Next is my eyebrow ring and my hair. Eyebrow ring has spikes, and I keep my hair spiked.

Boobs: Okay, you probably all scrolled right down to this one, didn't you? Go read the others. Now. I'll wait...

...

...Okay. So when I was a baby, my nickname was boo-boo. My sisters friends found out about this, and it slowly went from booboo to bouey to (eventually) boobs. It was fun having a dozen juniors running up to me, screaming "Boobs" and tackling me.

So what are your nicknames?

I haven't told this story in a while I guess...

My nickname in RL is Walrus, and here's why-

I had a friend in college (back when I was a music major) who I hung out with all the damn time. I was hooked up in the way only a slacker could be, I knew people to get in movies for free, free food, arcade tokens, etc. Called it "Poor, but well entertained."

Anyway, she was engaged to a ranch hand who I had never met. She wanted him to take her out the way I would, except, you know, with more smooching.

So she started to tell him, this ranch hand who I never met, that I was taking her out to all these places-trying to get him jealous. Just great, I'm going to get torn apart by a ranch hand. But, she lamented over lunch, he did not get jealous. Whew, off the hook.

So I asked her how she described me.

"I said you looked kinda like a Walrus."

Well, there's your problem. I think if my girlfriend came home and said she was hanging out with someone she thought looked like a walrus I'd be happy she made a friend.

She didn't mean it to be harsh, she was describing my facial hair at the time. She was embarrassed at the implied insult (she was really a very nice person, hated to be mean to anyone) so of course I teased her by using 'Walrus' anytime I had to make up a name (why didn't I name my nation Walrustopia, or Walrustan? Shut up, that's why...).

Which I did the day I started my second stint at the record store doing bar trivia. Since this was my first introduction to some of the people there, and there where already three people with my real name working there, the name stuck. So now there are people who only know me as Walrus.

I like it as a nickname, because aside from the Beatles reference it's not a 'cool' nickname, it's not flattering but kinda friendly. Unless you're a penguin.

People call me Emperor Jon. Why you ask? It started with a really well played game of Halo, in which I declared myself Emperor of a certain level. They liked it and it stuck.

Course there's the less flattering Emo Jon... yeahhhh... sad thing is I'm not emo at all. Oh well. I'm telling you...you get kinda fatalistic ONE TIME and some bastard starts calling you this and that.:p

In NS- "CL" or "Carn" seem to be used, easier than typing out the whole thing, I guess.

IRL, its been "Wolfy" for years now, used affectionately by former coworkers and friends, mainly females.

Lots of people in real life call me Peaches because I'm a female and I live in Ga. The Peach State. Somebody coined the phrase/terms "Georgia Peaches" for all the women who are born and raised in here long ago. I think in all fairness we should call the men in Georgia Peanuts since that was something we are known for as well.

Hoo boy, this might take a while. When I was in high school, several of my friends had their own nicknames for me, most of which were plays on my name. These include Shanooga, Shannie, Sherri, Shanunu, Moonlight Shadow, and Shannerooni. To my fellow swimmers, I was known as Butterfly.

When I got to college, none of those stuck. Instead, in my group of friends I became known as Shannoon. Which became Noonie. Which became Noonie-Gin. My friend that does Latin occasionally calls me Noonia. To my friends on the football team I'm known as Shanoob, or simply Noobs (thanks JR).

To my RL friends, I'm known as Trickster. It sounds kind of weird, but the guy who gave it to me was pretty weird. We took computer-aided design drafting together in high school, and whenever I screwed up a design, he'd say I "tricked it". So, he started calling me Trickster, and I don't just mean in polite conversation. He'd literally yell every time he saw me, "What up, Trickster!" He went to the same college I did and the name followed me, so it stuck.

Pretty much everyone calls me by my surname. Because "Chris" is such a common name, and my surname is unique (and short) enough, it works. It's been that way since I was a kid...I don't ask people to call me by it, everyone just does so automatically after a while. :p

Oh, and a couple of people at work call me Topher so as to not get confused with another Chris that works there.

I have a few nicknames, some used more often than others.
My main nickname is 'Nea' (pronounced 'Knee'), which is the first three letters of my surname (Neave). This was decided upon also based on the fact that most of my coats look like I stole them from the Wachowski Brothers, so there's a 'Neo' reference in there.
Other nicknames I've had in the past;
Commie: I'm a left-wing guy, so people thougth it would be fun to call me Communist for a while.
Pacif - As in Pacifist. I usually don't condone violence, and that just stuck.
Sephiroth - Mostly used when people don't want to use my real name for some reason. That stems from a time I started singing 'One Winged Angel' outside a chippy. Everyone seems to think I have an obsession with the character.
Sephy - Shorter version of the Sephiroth.
Neaveo - A retired name, same reasons as Nea, only it's the full name with an 'o' stuck on the end. Rather silly really.
(In fact, I've noticed most common nicknames are just 'name'o.)
Crag - Only people I like get to use this without punishment. My name is Craig, and with the 'i' removed, this is made.

People probably call me lots of other things, but I won't go into that...

I never had a nickname, either. But with a name like Julia, there were always enough Romeo jokes to go around, so I can't exactly say I felt deprived in that department...

Back in school, almost all the guys' nicknames were their last names or some version thereof. Never for the girls, though. Weird.

Oh, and a couple of people at work call me Topher so as to not get confused with another Chris that works there.

My nickname is Negative Zero because my name seems to be everywhere these days. so one of my friends with that very name came up with it because he was tired of people saying our name and we'd both look or think someone was stating a conversation with us. so he said one day that we should just give ourselves secret agent names like red fox or Negative Zero. i was like... what the f*ck that isnt a possible number and i liked it so he called me negative zero and when other people heard him call me that they were like wtf? so they just kept going with it!

I've never had an IRL nickname. Nathan shortens to "Nate", which I tolerated in public school, but cut off in college because it rhymes with about a thousand -ate verbs, many of which are unpleasant or at least unflattering. Thing is, nobody in school was clever enough to insult me using those verbs. I'd occasionally get "Nate the Great is fishing bait," but nothing like I imagine now: "masturNate", "emascuNate", etc.

All my students have just called me by my last name, with or without the "Mr." or "Professor" preceeding it. I guess I'm just not a nicknamable guy.

Online gaming anf LAN parties have generated a few:

Target, from my inability to excel at FPS games...I don't "twitch" well.
Snipe, from sniper, a role I'm relegated to by the above problem.
Clocktower or CT, from my proficiency at sniping (when it's all you can do, you get good).
Camp Nathan, for any area I'm camped over and scoping; as in "don't go out the back, it's Camp Nathan out there."
Fink, for being a good camper.
Infradog, which is just "underdog" with a Latin prefix instead of an English one, suggesting I've less chance than an underdog.
Butter, from my preference of securing resources and building up my own empire in strategy games rather than conquering others (contrasted with my friend "Guns" who is the opposite).

and

Randy Pan, from my love and quotation of Bill Hicks.

Hell the girl who I was friends with for over a year (and is now my girl friend) didn't even know that my real name wasn't Josh... in fact come to think of it there are ALOT of people who only know me as Shua... oh shit I've lost my identity!

I was known as Fukov for awhile. It was a stupid thing that started as a way to harrass the substitute("Fukov","What did you say?", "My names Fukov. It's Russian from my father's side.") which spun into a nice little story about how my grandfather (Alexi Fukov) had died of cancer last year. The name stuck for about 2 months after the joke had gotten stale.
And that is about it. Pretty much what you get for having a name that is already short and easy to pronounce, no one feels the need to invent a different one for you.

I've got the nicknames:

Personal: Juanita, Ivan, Evan/Ethan, Slam
NS: Demon

Stories:
Juanita: Translated from its original meaning my name means "John". Being that not even having a single drop of hispanic background I could speak Spanish almost fluently by Freshman year in Highschool my friends and I (going to an all boys school) always changed each other's names to the feminine. Since my name is hard to change to the feminine (being there is no feminine form) they started calling me Juantia and it stuck between those of us who still chat.

Evan/Ivan: Sophomore year on the bus, people got tired of calling me by my real name and decided to make up a relatively new name. Hence I got both Evan and Ivan from there for the rest of my years there.

Ethan: I used to go to a highschool youth group at my church. This one kid Matt, never remembered anyone's first name! So he used to go through a huge list of names whenever addressing someone... the one he commonly ended up calling me was Ethan. Kinda stuck as a joke.

Slam: This started in Sophomore year when a new kid came to the school. Guy's name was Nick. We always played 2 on 4/5/6 him and me against anyone else. Neither of us are very tall (6'5" and 6'6"). I used to go for the drives and slam it against the back board on purpose and he'd dunk it so we became known as Slam and Dunk

Demon: I'm a noob here but someone just called me Demon... I misspelt my name ... I meant for it to be Demosthenes w/e but I put a "n" in and it became Demon so w/e

My first nickname, I hate. My sister started it. I don't know if she was actually calling me fat or just said it because it sounds like my name, Heather. But evetually my friends found out and started calling me Heifer. I hate it! I am actually normal weight, thank you!
My other is Rachael. I know....Heather=Rachael...how? Well, my friends ex=boyfriend was talking to her about me on the phone and he kept calling me Rachael. I don't know why, but it infuriated me to be called by the wrong name yet once again in my life. (I have often been called my sister's name, my sister's friends name, rarely by my own name....--;;). But my friends just kept calling me that and I really don't care anymore.

Ya Pilot - people say that cause I'm a pilot:)

D-Dawg - from a friend who thinks he may be black when drunk

There were more but I can't really remember them, haven't been used in awhile.

I have had a lot of nicknames over the years.

My first Nickname was 'psycho' sixth grade, every junior had to have one and that was I.
I jumped two people who had jumped me on other occasions. I grew up around older people my idea of jumping someone was different then my contemporaries.
The first kid had smacked in the face with a boke chain, so I caught alone in our school hall and choked him out, clean triangle choke--but because I actually choked him out--I was 'psycho'.

The other kid was much stronger then me and he picked on everyone(for years all the way to adulthood I would hear his name mentioned and people would hiss and ask where he could be found now--a more hated person I have never known) I waited in the bathroom for him...when he walked past the stall door I was standing in I kicked the door open as hard as I could knocked him to the ground and stomped all over his ankles then I kicked him in the face.
He didnt tell it was me(he was bully) he never touched me again, or any of my friends. He did however give it worse to the next grade down...sorry guys.

Once I moved in with my dad, I became Little Michael. I have held to this name for longer then any other. At some points my father and I were living with as many as three other michaels so I was known to most everyone as 'Little Michael'--I hated 'Mike'.
I still answer to Little Michael.

For some reason while living in Pheonix when I was 13 my stoner friends started calling me 'TrueBlue', I have never been really clear on why. I seem to recall owning a lot of blue clothing at that time so that may have been why. They also could have just been really high and simply went with it.

Returning to Detroit,
I got some names I dont care to discuss--related to some incidence I am not proud of.

But when I started drinking heavy at about 15 or 16 I got the nickname 'The Vomitron' because I would drink large amounts of liquor, then go and make myself vomit and begin drinking again(yes, I was stupid) Because I could simply think about vomitting and do it(no finger or any crap like that) and because I did it at will(many times an open sun roof or convertable at the mall fell victim to my bizzare talent) I was dubbed 'The Vomitron'.

Later a gentleman who has remained a close and great friend would name me the Disciple of Pain (I was into, and had always been into martial arts)---
The DOP nickname broke of and manifest itself as Shoalin Disciple, Monk, Shaolin Monk, MasterKiller. Often followed by the question " But do you know toad style?"

A number of females in my life at the time had given me the name Rasputin for my odd but attractive behavior(I stopped with the vomiting on command). i went with because I loved the Mad Monk(yes Rasputin was actually another off shoot of Disciple of Pain).

I have aswell as being deeply interested in Martial Arts been a military historian, like my friend who named me DOP.
One day asked my question from Conan that was ripped from the Ghengis Khan.

I myself having mentioned on many occasions how much I loved the mongols.

I answered him with the answer Ghengis gave--I also happened atthat time to wear a top knot haircut and Fu-ManChu moustache---so I became Ghengis. At the same time, some of hte people I practiced Kungfu with started calling me 'Dirty Manchu', or just 'Manchu' (because of my Hair cut).

I have had a few others, Flowers being one that sticks in my mind.....but i dont think I will share why I got called 'Flowers'.

Ghengis, and LittleMichael are still names I answer to, I think I always will.

Temujin(the given name of Ghengis Khan is also I name I answer to, and use online).

Meh, nicknames.

Its a long long story, but basically it's my cartoon persona on the Starship Rejects - a thing to pass time devised by me and my friends

Yak

My real name is Jake but somehow my parents have come to calling me Yak - I think my dad started it.
I would guess that "Yak" comes from a Latinate treatment of "Jake". A "J" gets pronounced like a "Y" in many languages. Drop the silent "E", and poof -- you're a Yak (Latinate pronunciation would be "yock", btw.)

I don't exactly have a nickname right now. When I was a kid, my parents called me "Header," because my name is Heather and I fell on my head alot. And two years ago, a couple guys took to calling me Legolas, as apparently I look elfish. That wore out pretty quick. Now, people just call me "idiot" or "that writer/actress/opera singer girl with no boobs who wears way too many bracelets/ always shouts about being offended whenever religion or rememberance day is brought up."

Scarlet fever, me and my sister used to get strep alot, woke up one morning with a weird rash, ran to my moms room saying we looked like grandma (she has alot of freckles, which is what the rash looked like), and ended up having scarlet.
I was the last in my house to get chicken pox. My sister had it for 2, overlapped my dad by a week, who also had it for 2. I overlapped his second week and also had it for 2. My mom would play connect the dots with her mascera...it felt good and kept her occupied. I also ended up with pneumonia at the same time. that was fun.

Surprisingly enough, i actually have a good constitution. It took 11 days of exposure for me to finally get chicken pox, and since they'd cooped us (as is the fashion), they all got the second version that i contributed back to them.
Also, i'm unresponsive to poison oak.
