VH1 showed the 100 greatest artists of Hard Rock a few years ago. The top twenty were:
1. Led Zepplin (who should be #1)
2. Black Sabbath
3. Jimi Hendrix( the best guitarist ever)
4. AC/DC ( finally someone gives them some credit)
5. Metallica
6. Nirvana
7. Van Halen
8. The Who
9. Guns N' Roses
10. KISS
11. Aerosmith
12. Sex Pestols
13. Queen
14. Soundgarden
15. Pink Floyd
16. Cream
17. The Ramones
18. Ozzy Osbourne
19. The Clash
20. Alice Cooper

Now there are some problems with that. You might hate me but i don't consider Metallica or Soundgarden to be music at all. The Who aren't hard rock, even though they are on of the top 10 bands of all time. If the Who are in there, where are the Rolling Stones? The answer, 67th, what a joke. I don't think Queen is hard rock. Cream needs to be top 10. Alice Cooper was the HARD ROCK for years, he needs to be top 10. How did KISS beat out Aerosmith? Aerosmith to me is 5th on this list. KISS was good, but not top 10 worthy. Oh, and by the way, Blue Oyster Cult was 55th, Janis Joplin was 48th, ZZ Top was 44th, and Bad Company was 59th. That is a joke.

Sex Pistols.

And my only real problem with the list is that Husker Du were at like #67; they should be near the top.

Oh, and the fact that the list is totally meaningless is also a problem.

Of course it's a joke. They make these lists according to the opinions of their readership. Besides, they totally snubbed Jackyl.

If guys like the Who, whom werent hard rock, are on that list, how is Meat Loaf 96th? Bon Jovi was like 75th. Springsteen wasnt on the list. Heart was in the fourties. Even some of U2 could be hard rock. And the Beatles White Album was pretty hard stuff for the time, and if the Stones are on there they should be too.

MTV could make a better list from their video collection than VH1s

Rolling Stone published the 100 greatest guitarists. Van Halen was 70 and Angus Young was 96. BB King was 3rd. It is a sign of the Apocolypse. Jimmy Paige was nineth. What the hell?

The Eagles are hardly "Hard Rock". They're softer than a silk bag full of cotton balls.

Er, listen to their stuff that barely gets any airplay. They have much better (and much harder) songs than "Smells Like Teen Spirit".

And yes, Frances Farmer will have her revenge on Seattle.

Im sorry, but you really dont have much of an understanding about music at all.
You personally may not like it, but considering Metallica is the top selling metal band of all time, Im sure they qualify as music.

The Who aren't hard rock, even though they are on of the top 10 bands of all time. If the Who are in there, where are the Rolling Stones?

Once again, this speaks of ignorance on your part.
If you dont think The Who werent hard rock, you have never heard them.
You OBVIOUSLY havent heard thier live album "Live at Leeds", if you had indeed heard it, you would know full well why they are and should be considered hard rock.
If thier cover of Mose Alison's "Young man blues" isnt heavy metal, nothing is.

How did Pink Floyd make the list? They're not hard rock.

They could be at times... the "Nile Song" from thier movie soundtrack album "More" certainly is.

Other songs they had were definately "hard rock", just not all of them.

Sex Pistols.
Actually the name was meant to be the Sex Pestos, as they were all originally from Tijuana. They started out as a Mariachi band.
Little known fact.

Metallica is/was metal, not hard rock.
And here is why these sorts of lists are totally pointless:
How do you define a band's genre? What is hard rock to one person is metal/rock/grunge/punk/punk rock/rock'n'roll/easy listening/kenny g to another.

It's a completely pointless exercise.

I find the differences between most rock these days, especially harder rock, to be so small, its not even worth caring about. But, people persist.
