Paula Abdul was allowed to board a plane at the Las Vegas airport without passing through a security checkpoint, prompting all passengers and luggage to be screened when they landed in California, officials said Friday.

A worker led the "American Idol" judge and a companion around the mandatory screening process before they boarded a Southwest Airlines flight headed to Burbank, Calif., Thursday afternoon, said Elaine Sanchez, a spokeswoman for McCarran International Airport.

She said she could not confirm reports that the employee was trying to help the pop star avoid a swarm of fans.

Federal Transportation Safety Administration officials were alerted to the security breach while the plane was in the air, TSA spokeswoman Jessica Altschul said.

"We're conducting an internal investigation to see who exactly was responsible," she said.

The person who took Abdul past the checkpoint worked for an airport tenant, but not Southwest, Sanchez said. She said she could not identify the worker while the investigation was under way.

An Abdul spokeswoman did not return a phone call.

I'm sorry to do this, but what the fuck is the fuss? Oh no, a well known and recognized star didn't go through the all but pointless and solely ceremonious security check? Who knows? She might have had some nail-clippers on her, then the whole flight would've been screwed. They should've been thankful she used their damn flight instead of a private plane.

I bet they are jsut mad they didn't get to strip search her.

This just goes to show the ridiculousness involved in securing our methods of travel in this country. Not only do they not protect us at all, but they just cause inconvenience, and then the officials complain when tehy arn't allowed to inconvenience anyone.

Such total bullshit to allow them to skip through to "avoid swarming fans", considering that they could've just as easily had additional security do a more private security check....

Grrr. I'm not happy with Paula Abdul in general, anyway. Let's just take her down and hope it solves the problem.

It is a big issue because as far as I am aware people ought to be treated equally by the state and the idea that a person can bypass security because they are a "celebrity" (whatever the fuck that means) is frankly disgusting.

The fact that Paula Abdul isn't someone who is likely to try and blow up a plane is neither here nor there.

Actually, one would think that, considering the profiling actions of airport security in the past several years, someone named Abdul would be considered more likely to blog up a plane.....

Bad joke. Very rude. Sorry.
