no china and india will be helped by the world market, as they are being now. the only way the will fall behind is if (china) stops privatising and deregulating.

they'll probably end up getting screwed over by rising oil demand, while america dodges a bullet because it seems that we've already taken steps to reduce our dependancy while they're currently increasing it.

There already is an African Union. Europe will not shift to right. Governments of the Eu have rules regarding their spending imposed by the European Central Bank. The rest of your predictions are a bit crap as well. But I can't be bothered to refute the rest. Just these two that I found easiest to refute.

Globalism will reverse as a consequence of the depletion of cheap, abundant energy. The Icelandic sheet will have melted along with much of the poles raising ocean levels as much as 21 feet. Humanity will just be recovering from a massive die-off that will reduce its population from a high of between 10 and 15 billion people to between 1 and 2 billion. The enviroment will have gone through a massive sea-change that drives temperate growing weather towards the poles on both sides of the globe. People everywhere will be living much more locally producing agricultural products and goods and services much closer to where they live. Centralization into cities will reverse and many more people will be living rural, agricultural existences. A sort if techno-fuedal political relationship will dominate the globe where hi technology will exist but will not be able to be delivered to the masses the way it was at the height of the 20th century and into the beginning of the 21st. Neighborhoods will be neighborhoods once again. People will socialize and organize at the community level again. Families will stay close to one another and we will rediscover the extended family and clan.

China's country will collapse as they realize democracy is a form of government.
The largest economy in the world will consist of East Coast China, Japan, and India. The republicans will eventually see the light, and start voting towards someone who cares less about family values and care more about the economy. America will be the leading military superpower, but the economic superpowers will not include them.

Bio diesel will be the way to go. America will become the new Saudi Arabia, selling the oil everywhere. European union will fail, but the United Nations will rise. Osama will never be found, and the US finds it's army useless in the upcoming war.

A war with China will break out. No nukes will be fired. The war will end quickly. A US draft will be instilled, and China, facing the attack of both Japan and America will succumb quickly. Despite the war, there will be a very low casulty count. It is now that China breaks off into different countries as the forces drop ideas of democracy as they leave.

Kurds will probably take over most of Iraq. The area will still be a hot, but several of the countries will form an alliance. For example, Saudi Arabia and Egypt may form one. Turkey wll be a stand alone country. Israel and new iraq will form one. And Iran would rather not have anything to do with it.

Iran will be amitted as one of the world's nuclear powers. There will be no production of nuclear weapons, but breeder reactors will be their new source of power.

You seem to have a very positive outlook. I think religion will fall behind atheism only in Europe, America will stay as religious as it is if not more. A World War 3 will break out, this time with nukes on both sides. Europe will be left wing, America right wing, America will lose its "control" over the world which it shouldnt have anyway, Europe will unite with a few exceptions (Britain). The number of totaliterianistic countries will increase.

The Middle east will be booming in Democracy. Isreal will have taking over palistine and recaptured the all of the HOLY Land. Iran will have been destroyed or permentaly crippeld along side with middle eastern counties, Veniswalia. America will have been attacked many times do to war along side with its allies. Countrys will have a basic religon. World wont be as mixed as it is today(Religon,Nationality)Mexico will have become a poor dumping ground and the worst and poorest nation due to the unexspected deportation of ALL illigeal immingrents and a Massive wall built around the U.S borders. Many countires will become isolationist due to world events(including America)
Also China will be converted to some sort of Democracy after a great war with the U.S. Africas nations will fall into tribal empires or Nomadic people's. The world will have gotten rid of oil. Nations will be very inactive with oneonther. Current nations today will have been Destroyed,Tooking over, Liberated and Exspanded its nation in many ways. It's nice that you don't think that the EU is plausible, but it exists all the same. All the countries that joined the Euro gave up their right to determine monetary policy that the European Central Bank now has control over.

China will rule the world and institute a system not unlike in 1984
The élites and maybe others will enhance themselves with transhumanist tech
Transhumanism will replace religion as a major social control mechanism
The third world will be in shambles with no hope of rehabilitation
Pop culture will get much worse and kitsch will replace high art entirely

Good thread. Hmmm - 100 years is too long tho. Think about the state of say, Europe, at 1900 and then compare the state of Europe at 1999 - there's just so much happened in so many different ways etc, any meaningful prediction is not possible.

I suggest a fifty year time-frame ...

Europe will be united, without Great Britain possibly.

That's the situation now. Internal Europe has little or no real borders, a common currency and common policies. Britain don't have the currency and resists integration.

India and China will be Pwning the world market.
On current trends, definitely. It's just all that labour & land! China has historically been the world superpower throughout history - it's just a matter of time before it regains its place. Unless ... either India or China go back to socialism. In which case they will stagnate. Socialism is baaaaaaaaaad.

Cuba will collapse economically
Almost certainly going to happen - and well before 50 years are up.

religion in the west will fall behind atheism.
I doubt this. Religosity is increasing in the Americas and Western Europe is increasingly home to people who are religious. I am sharing a house with three women from Africa - they play 'god squad' music all day :p Add in the large numbers of Muslim immigrants, and immigrants from staunchly Catholic eastern european countries and surely the prediction is for more religosity rather than less.

nukes will be disarmed.
Never gonna happen. Countries just don't give up their most powerful weapons. And even if some do, most won't. That said, nukes ain't a bad thing ... as long as you don't use them!

africa's debts will be gone, or it'll be worse off than it is now.
Africa's debts gone? Not likely. They're huge and Africa has a fairly pisspoor economy owing to war, corruption disease and a lack of infrastructure. I, sadly, suspect it will be worse off rather than better.

Possible african union.
Possible. But then, there are numerous 'African Unions' in existence already, many based on the EU. Can't see they've made much of a difference so far.

G.Britannia will give back the falklands.
Not gonna happen. (1) It's not a question of 'giving back'. We settled that land first. (2) The people of the falklands are British and don't want to be Argentinian (3) After the sacrifice of troops and equipment in the Falklands War, no British politician is going to want to be seen as soft or an appeaser. In today's paranoid security environment, the ghost of Neville Chamberlain looms large

Ireland and N.I-Britain will settle.
Hopefully! That said, the people of NI regard themselves as British and want to stay that way.

America will slide right-wing
Can't really comment here.

Europe Left-Wing
I dislike these left-wing/right-wing tags. They're misleading. But, anyway, socially, yes Europe will become more socially liberal - promotion of gay marriage, legalised euthanasia etc. Maybe even more drug-liberal. Economically, Europe will not go socialist. If anything, the trend is the otherway. Look at the ECommission and the Spanish Izar yards debacle. The EC basically insisted that the Spaniards stop supporting the national yards and then insisted that they be sold off to the highest bidder. You can see a similar thing happening with the Malta Shipyards. And look at Mittal's bid for Arcelor. In the bad old days, when the politicians sounded off some ridiculous socialistic, nationalistic nonsense, that was the end of it. Now Mittal has gone whinging to the EC. I suspect that if Mittal does go full throttle on this, it will win, backed up by the power of the EC.

Islamic countries will become more religious (its possible!)
Possible - are you thinking of Turkey, Syria, Indonesia?

east-asian countries will just be pwning the markets.
australia will get more powerful.
East asians could well prosper on the boom driven by India/China. But that depends on whether they go socialist :( *shakes head* or capitalist :) *nods*

Whats your estimates?
As above.

& ...

Iraq to disintegrate into three states - Kurdistan in the North, Sunni-stan in the centre and Shia-stan in the south.

Turkey and Kurdistan becomes the next geo-political nightmare, especially, as by 2050, Turkey will be part of the EU, as will the Ukraine and Belarus. Russia remains outiside.

Globalisation is now, by 2050, well underway as massive (i.e. capable of carrying 20,000 lorries worth of goods) Natural Gas Hydrate-powered ships ply the globe. Places like Panama and Egypt suffer as their canals cannot accommodate the new ships

The world is largely run on a mix of nuclear power and natural gas hydrates with a substantial input from renewals. Oil is terribly expensive having peaked in about 2025 and what is left now in 2050 is used to create a rare commodity, plastic. Ageing, celebrity, former it girl and once-reknowned 'hottie', Paris Hilton, age 75, is seen wearing fablously expensive plastic ear-rings at the London Fashion Show. She was boated into the venue on a gondola as London, became flooded like Venice in 2025 owing to global warming. Sadly, in the same flood, low-lying countries like Bangladesh and the Netherlands ceased to exist causing massive loss of life.

Punitive measures on pollution were introduced then. Powered short-range air travel was forbidden and passenger carrying Zeppelins were reintroduced into the skies.

In the US in 2050, preparations are underway to get ready to commerate the anniversary worst terrorist attrocity in history. Seven years from now will be the fiftieth anniversary of the New York nuclear event. A series of dirty radiological bombs were placed all over the city and in the subway trains. Thousands died in the explosions, many thousands more succumbed to radiation poisoning and large areas of the city remain uninhabited.

On a lighter note, Arnold Schwarzenegger returns back to life in 2050 after having spent a year dead for immigration reasons.

I produce fiction based around Earth (or Homoa, as it comes to be called) many years in the future, I have a fairly detailed future chronology for my fictional Homoa:

As of 2100:
Almost all of the world is in economic, social and political chaos after a robot rebellion spreads across the galaxy. Dealing with the challenge of coping with the collapse of an economy almost entirely dependent on robotic workers, many of the world's (still disunited) governments resort to drastic measures to increase the productivity of a population who for decades have been unused to manual labour.

Triasia (sandarin: sanyazhou), a massive federal state dominating the eastern half of Asia, abandons its representative democracy and instigates an emergency regime whereby the population is forcibly put on a course of drugs that effectively remove the human urge for sleep, creating a nightmarish hyper-industrialised state where workers are kept psychologically abused by the lack of dreams and entirely dependent on their government.

The Commission for De-Nationisation (spranto: La Commissijo de NeTsionismon), a globally-spanning revolutionary government whose primarily goal was the destruction of the Nation State and introduction of practical-anarchist policies over the entire world, disbands, leaving the lands it governs in Europe, Africa, South Asia and North America to fend for themselves, forming a dozen successor states which quickly adopt command economies and Triasian-esque policies.

A new revolutionary movement, calling for the reintroduction of rigid hierarchy into society, takes hold in Istanbul, forming the Pontian Empire (pontic latin: Imperium Ponticanus). A system is established whereby everyone born is born into slavery, and social climbing is only possible by impressing a massive civil service of masked eunuchs. The ultimate goal of climbing the social ladder is entry into the Imperium, a luxurous walled compound within the city of Istanbul, where inhabitants live in paradise and have complete control over the direction of the Empire.

The alien colonies of Australia (gaamgaan: Ha'asra'alyu'ul), and South America (ampuan: siethmerikuwa) are hastily granted independence, the former quickly descending into a chaotic dog-eat-dog bloodbath, and the latter splitting into a southern Patagonian Republic, and the north forming the New Mayan Empire, based on the Pontian Empire in modern-day Turkey.

North America is mostly uninhabitable, due to the aftermath of the devastating volcanic eruption of the Yellowstone volcano, and the earth-spoiling antics of decades of rule by war-lords. The few states that still exist survive by clutching to the coasts, such as the Triasian states of North and South Pacifica that stretch from Alaska to the Baja Californian peninsula, the De-Nationalist successor republic of New England, and the New Aztec Empire, a puppet of the New Mayan Empire, which exists from north of the Panama Canal to the present-day Gulf states of the USA.

Until 2094 a small democratic state existed on the Antarctic Peninsula, but was then conquered by the Patagonian Republic, marking the first time in centuries when the planet was completely devoid of any form of democracy.

Superpowers go foraging for puppet empires to keep them in stocked with ever dwindling resources. The days of empire are back again.

India and China collapse in on themselves because they can’t find enough resources to power their growing economy. They have enough problems keeping their many diverse peoples together and fed, so they are left out of the empire game.

Korea is united.

The European Union continues to grow and leaves the US in the dust. The Euro becomes the dominant world currency.

Global recession hits and there are mass famines and diseases get out of control when funding decreases.

The space programs settle for only sending rare probes out into the solar system, because of dwindling resources and will to use those dwindling resources in space.

Religious nutbars gain more hold on society than ever before and fundamentalism rules the streets.

Africa is preyed on by foreign corporations for resources and is little better off than in the last century.

Some country with nukes will eventually nuke someone else. Just once though and a lot of people will be quite annoyed about it.

The Middle East becomes irrelevant when new energy sources are implemented on a mass scale. They become the new Africa. They take this very poorly. Shiite and Sunni’s fight country versus country for dominance over what little they have left.

Environmental destruction by industry goes too far, but the resources of the world are too depleted to do much to reverse the trend without society collapsing.

Sorry, I couldn't find my previous posts of this, so I can't just give you a link. So I'll post the whole thing. Maybe some will find it interesting.

I wrote it a while ago, so some things might not seem as likely as they might have been a year ago.

2005-2010.
The world continues much as it has so far.
American troops eventually end the occupation of Iraq, but maintain a sizeable force on their military bases in the country. Insurgents still cause some uncertainty, but the now well equipped and ruthless Iraqi Security Police cracks down on any Islamic movements with great efficiency.
In Central Asia, much goes on as it has before. Some old dictatorships are overthrown and replaced by new ones, which all try and get support from the various powers.
India and Pakistan finally sign a peace and friendship treaty, and work towards an independent Kashmir, which is to be included in a new South-Asian free trade zone.
The Republicans continue to dominate US-Politics, with Hillary Clinton the last democrat to get even close to Jeb Bush’s numbers. Social Security and Retirement funds are privatised and monopoly laws are softened. The US Economy thrives on this, while the poor become poorer and public schooling becomes a nightmare. All in all, things are looking good though.
China continues to modernise, spending hundreds of billions on improved infrastructure and improving local industries. US trade officials still demand the Yuan to be freely floated, but cheap Chinese Labour is too important as that anyone could force China to do so. Relations with Taiwan remain largely as they are now.
In Europe, the fall-out of the failed constitution of 2005 continues to weaken all efforts to coordinate policies. Britain states repeatedly that it sees the EU as an FTA without any political function and resists any movement into that direction. The Russian government and EU-Leaders though declare a closer friendship treaty that is to open the way for an alliance of interests in later times.
The UN is reformed, with Germany, Brazil and Japan receiving permanent seats without veto-power. An African representative is planned but never introduced. Global Warming is still an unimportant issue, while crops in the third world and in Australia suffer from droughts and tropical storms claim hundreds of lives.
Islamic Terrorist Groups, such as Al Qaeda slowly fade away, as Osama Bin Laden suffers a stroke and dies, never to have been found or arrested. Ayman Al-Zawahiri vows to continue the struggle, but as the times change, new recruits become scarce and the war on terror becomes a thing of the past.

2010-2020.
A new war in the Balkans stretches NATO to its limits, as the US-Government refuses to get involved. Popular opinion is against helping the Europeans, and NATO is quietly disbanded. EU Peacekeeping forces are greatly stretched, but manage to keep control in key areas, as diplomats begin negotiations. In the end, the EU is successful, as the Balkans become peaceful members of the EU and continue their rivalries diplomatically.
In the early 2010’s a shock goes through the world economy, as a popular movement inspired by Islamic clerics as well as Western democratic activism launches a revolution in Saudi Arabia. Thousands die as armed forces and demonstrators clash all over the country. US-officials are unsure how to react, as this is a popular, largely democratic movement against an autocratic regime. American popular opinion is also against any involvement in the issue. When the Saudi royal family is overthrown and killed however, the result is a massive break-in of stock prices all over the world. Hardest hit is the US, as trillions in Saudi-Investment suddenly disappear or are claimed by others and oil prices hit $100 per barrel.
In Iraq, a revolt of Sunni Muslims leads to civil war, splitting Iraq into three parts: Kurdistan, the Arabic Republic of Iraq and the South-East, which is eventually annexed by Iran.
In Europe the economies crumble as well, as Central Asian and Russian suppliers find themselves unable to fulfil oil demands. The Alliance between the EU and Russia is never realised, as all countries are once again drawn into a great depression.
China is very badly hit as well. As foreign demand diminishes and resources become harder to procure, China finally decides to float the Yuan and reform its banking system. The result is a collapse similar to those in the US and the EU, leaving the government on the ropes. For a time it looks like civil war could break out, but compassionate pleas from many sides bring the masses back from the brink, and the communist party is disbanded. Two new forces take its place, one Maoist party and a new direction, forming a curious mix of Chinese nationalism, Confucianism and Capitalism. This new party wins the general election and rules the nation for the years to come.
Israel suffers greatly under the sudden stop of US-aid and the spiralling world economy, leaving the Prime Minister with no choice but to downsize the armed forces and push for an immediate settlement with the Palestinians. A Palestinian state is created in the following year.
In the US the economic collapse has catastrophic consequences. As tax revenue crumbles, the Government cuts its spending as demand for its bonds is near nil, and no more funds are available. The space program is discontinued, as is much military research and an overhaul of national education systems. Furthermore, the democrats have now faded almost out of the picture, with the filibuster gone and public opinion firmly directed against weak-minded liberals. Strong nationalism leads to aggressive tariffs and quotas being introduced against foreign companies, who are often blamed for the economic collapse.

2020-2030.
The World is gradually recovering from the collapse. Oil continues to become scarce, and global warming has now made farming unviable in much of Australia, Southern Africa and so on, but the priorities of the world are on other things.
In the US, Fox Media has offered to buy the struggling CNN, the last news corporation other than Fox. When the US Government isn’t forthcoming with a decision, Fox sues at the Supreme Court, which eventually rules in favour of Fox. Civil Rights Groups are outraged, many Republicans hail the decision as a landmark, and most Americans couldn’t care less, as they haven’t been watching much news anyways.
The EU is making headway politically after the UK had declared itself no longer a full member during the depression. A new constitution is introduced, abandoning most national governmental departments and parliaments and replacing them with European ones. At CERN French scientists develop the technology for the peaceful use of nuclear fusion. The EU quickly realises the possibilities and begins to construct fusion plants and exports energy.
India and Pakistan are also recovering and increase their influence over formerly American-controlled central Asian nations in an attempt to secure more oil reserves.
Russia has become more centralistic during the depression, but is mainly directing its interest at Central Asia as well.
The UN, which had faded almost out of existence during the depression is reconstructed, abandoning the security council and giving every country votes based on population and other factors.
In China, the new government completes its reforms and reconstruction efforts successfully, and is in a strong position. The second largest country on Earth, it presides over the strongest economy and a powerful, reformed and modernised military.
In Taiwan, a referendum is held on whether the island should join the new mainland, which is successful. Talks begin immediately, as Chinese police forces are invited on the island and hailed as friends. In America, this new development is very concerning. Fearing Chinese expansion and losing its presence in Asia, the US is determined not to let the two nations unite. When diplomatic pressure is ignored by the Chinese, US warships begin to move. North of Taiwan, there is first contact as a Chinese drone is shot down. When US Special Forces are found on Taiwan, the unified Chinese governments react with anger. A deadline is set for the US to leave the area. When American officials refuse, a massive upset hits the world. A taskforce carrier group of the US Navy was attacked by a swarm of Cruise Missiles, and a nuclear carrier was hit so badly that it sunk the following day. More than 1000 US Crewmembers die.
The following days are spent with waiting for imminent nuclear apocalypse, as the US Military asks the president for the right to hit back with all might. Only the combined pressure of the entire world, and a threat by all other nuclear powers to side with whoever is being shot at first convinces the US President to be the better man and back off. From this day on, the US Hegemony over the planet is over.

2030-2040.
In combined elections the people of Pakistan and India unite their nations once more to form the new largest economy on earth. Proclaiming that they are not interested in military power, they stay neutral.
The EU is finally declared one single state, ending 2000 years of intra-european rivalry and an FTA is declared with Russia. Furthermore, a new alliance (similar to the old EU) is declared between Europe and the nations of North Africa, Kazakhstan and its neighbours, as well as with Canada and later Mexico. American protests are ignored, as they are based on ideology without facts to support them. Nuclear fusion technology is used wherever a nation was ready to comply with certain criteria. China soon developed its own version but the US refused, slowly developing its own fusion technology based on a different approach.
In America, liberalism and anti-government sentiment has lead to a gradual disappearing of an ordered police force. Local groups and companies are vying for the right to take care of security, often at gun point, leaving behind an anarchy.
FoxNews is no longer showing news from the world outside the US. Immigration was outlawed during the depression, and the import quotas were gradually decreased to reach practically zero in order to protect US Companies.
In the Middle East, stable Islamic democratic states have developed in Egypt, Syria and the Arabian peninsula. Kurdistan is also solidified, as the EU has prevented Turkish intervention. Iraq is going well, while Iran has increasingly become freer and is now usually referred to as Persia, linking it directly with the empires of the past.
In China, the past is now looked upon as the Mao Dynasty, in one direct line from the first emperor. The nation has become the new power in the world, generally keeping out of affairs that don’t affect it directly, but always ready to intervene to protect its interest. The rest of the world becomes slightly sceptical and anti-sinoism becomes increasingly popular in Europe. ;)

2040+
Well, America has become more and more of an outcast internationally, but its tale is not over. Eventually it may recover, rebuilding itself on the platform of the American Dream. It may not be able to do so by itself, but a time comes when they will accept foreign help. Global Warming becomes a scourge, flooding vast pieces of land (the Netherlands, New York, Shanghai) and millions die in annual famines and shortages of drinking water. Eventually the climate will normalise, as fossil fuels are no longer used, but the damage is done. The UN becomes the standard forum for nations to disband old feuds, coordinate policies and rebuild the ravaged ecosphere. China’s time comes and goes, followed by the final unification of interests when the UN becomes the central government body for Homo Sapiens.
Man will eventually look to the stars again and build space ships to found colonies on Mars and beyond…:p
