Question for Anyone with a Belief System

I have seen questions for Christians, Questions for Athiests/Brights, Questions for believers in all sorts of systems and moral codes. The question that always comes to my mind is this: Why do people ask questions to believers of various creeds on a Discussion Board? Are they looking to flex some intellectual muscle? Are they genuinely seeking someone that can explain something they don't understand? Is it thinly-veiled flame-baiting?

Discuss.

A mixture of the things you suggest and probably other motivations. Sometimes the questions are rhetorical, just to prove a point and sometimes they are actually confused about something and want to know if someone can explain it.

Question for Anyone with a Belief System
Well... don't know as I'd call it a "system" per se...

What are "Brights"?

Bright is a term that has come into popular use recently for people that used to be called Athiests. If I understand correctly, they go ttired of being known by what they don't believe in, if you follow. It had a bit of a negative connotation to some.

Thank you. I learned something new today.

Wikipedia indicates that the term can apply to people of faiths, also, who "maintain their religion’s cultural aspects but not its supernaturalism."

My pleasure.

I hear that Thomas Jefferson was such a man. He edited the first four books of the Christian New Testament, so I'm told, removing all the supernatural references. In his version, the story essentially ends with the Christ being put into a tomb and his followers going to hide in a room while they wait to be arrested.

Seems kinda pointless when you turn the Christ into just another wise teacher.

Pretty much everything is a system and a moral code, there is no point to discussion aside from entertainment.

They don't need any evidence that there's NO deity. There's no such thing as evidence of nothing.

Mostly it's just thinly veiled flame-baiting, but somewhere in all of that, there is a genuine curiosity as to why someone would want to have beliefs that seem to contradict logic and reason.

Um.. no.

Prove there's no pink unicorns.

Demonstrating that something is not 100% is NOT proving nothing.

:headbang: 't was a joke, but I'll indulge you.

Hum... no. Two reasons: English is not my mother tongue ("this is not a love song" - it doesn't rhime but its still cool) and in Portuguese we don't call for God during sex.

Now that I think of it, maybe some priests do; that I wouldn't know.

Agnosticism isn't indecisiveness ;)

Masterbation is a religion?

Is this an American thing? It might prove popular.

I don't know about that. Why else would soap operas and Pop Idol be so popular? ;)
