I've recently seen Walk The Line(which was fantastic) and I just bought the soundtrack and I've got another Johnny Cash CD. Just wondering what everybodies favourite Johnny Cash song is. Mine's Get Rhythm.

So you'd recommend the movie then? I was thinking of go seeing this weekend. That or Capote. Maybe both.

I sure do recommend the movie. The best movie since LOTR: Return of the King.

Used to. Now I teach English as a second language. My teaching 2moro is a p/t job that I kinda wish I haven't accepted as it means no late night Fridays and no lie-in Saturdays. But it's hard to turn down ~$40US an hour for 4 hours basically baby-sitting and playing games.

'The Wanderer' with U2 is awesome :) One of the last tracks Mr. Cash did.

I liked the movie, suprisingly. I hated the idea of 'Ole Hairlip' playing Johnny, but he impressed me. I've always been a huge Cash fan.

I like either Get rythm or Cocaine Blues the best. Probably this one:

Cocaine Blues

Early one morning while making my rounds...
I took a shot of cocaine and I shot my woman down.
I went right home and I went to bed.
I stuck that loving .44 beneath my head.

Got up next morning and I grabbed that gun...
Took a shot of cocaine and away I run!
Made a good run, but I run too slow...
They overtook me down in Juarez, Mexico.

Played in the Hot Joints, taking those pills,
In walked a man from Jericho Hill,
He said "Willy Lee your name is not Jack Brown.
You're the dirty hack who shot your woman down."

Yes o' yes my name is Willy Lee.
If you've got a warrant just'a read it to me.
Shot her down because she made me slow.
I thought I was her daddy but she had five more.

When I was arrested I was dressed in black
They put me on a train and they took me back.
I had no friends for t' go my bail,
They slapped my carcass in that county jail.

Early next morning about a'half past nine,
I spied a sherrif coming down that line.
He coughed as he cleared his throat,
Said "Come on your dirty hack into that district court."

Into the courtroom my trial began,
Where I was held by 12 honest men...
Just before the Jury started out...
I saw that little judge commence to look about.

In about five minutes in walked a man,
Holding the verdict in his right hand...
The Verdict read 'in the 1st degree...'
I hollered "Lordy Lordy have mercy on me!"

The Judge smiled as he picked up his pen....
Ninety-Nine years in the Folsom Pen!
Ninety-Nine years underneath that ground.
I can't forget the day I shot that bad bitch down.

All of you gotta listen un-to me!
Lay off that whiskey and let that cocaine be!

It sure is a good movie... 9/10

Oh, and my favourite song? The man comes around. One and Hurt are close too.

(The intro to the new Dawn of the Dead, with screaming and stuff while The man comes around is playing? Great! :D )

I also have a soft spot for The Highwayman for some reason

San Quentin is also very good.

Hurt is a cover. While he does it well, give credit where it's due. :p It's not a Johnny Cash song.

Anyway, I have an autographed "At Folsom Prison" LP. No, I'm not putting it on eBay.

My favorite Cash song is most definately Cocaine Blues.

But his covers of others material is frickin sweet.

My personal favorite cover he did was soundgarden's "Rusty Cage".
The guitar riff is as heavy as anyone really ever did, just not as heavy on the distortion.
Very cool cover.

Not to be understated, is "Mercy Seat".
Another very, very cool song, and one that gives me chills when I listen to it.

Another thing I love about Johnny, is that when he sings of pain, its real...hes felt it.
Thats why his cover of Danzig's "Thirteen" is so much better than the original.

I always assumed the song "You are my Sunshine" was a happy kind of song, until I heard the full version that Johnny covered.
MAN...thats such a sad, sweet song.

However, my all time favorite thing about Cash, is that he played what he wanted to play, not what Nashville told him he should.
Johhny is, was, and always will be.....The Man.

Am I the only one here who was shocked and surprised to hear The Jim Carroll Band playing 'People Who Died' at the end of the film? What a motherchristingly good tune that is.

Can't decide which is my favourite, Ring of Fire is definitely a good one.
Can't wait to see the film, hopefully they'll show it at the uni cinema - if not i'll buy the dvd.
...I'm just a bit gutted he died just before i got to know his music.

I voted "other", but I can't remember the name of the bloody song! I keep hearing it at friends' houses and missing the name. I think it was the last single he released, possibly posthumously. It goes "I hurt myself today, to see if I still bleed, the needle kills the pain, something something something..."

Am I allowed to nominate 'Redemption Song'..? It's a duet with Joe Strummer and it happened to play just as I saw this thread (spooky - whuuu)...
Yes, I know it's not a Cash original. Yes, I know it isn't even near being his best. Sue me

I know *of* his songs, but the performance of his that really gets me is his rendition of "Hurt." You can hear the raw pain in his voice and when I hear that song, I think of June Carter Cash.
