I suspect this story is an eye-opener for Canadians. http://cbc.ca/story/canada/national/2006/03/02/mexico-murders06It is not so much about the murders as horrific as they are, but the subsequent series of events that defies belief. The lack of a proper investigation, the leaping to conclusions and contradictions of the Mexican Attorney General, the naming of two Canadian women as suspects, this stinks.I mean i have heard comments about the ineptness and corruption of Mexican cops before but i put down as racist ranting, but i don't know.Comments?

Welcome to Mexico where you don't know whether the criminals are worse than the police (although often they're the same)

something i have never gotten, if so many mexicans are willing to cross the border to live in poverty and to rsik their lives in the USA, why dont they group together and have another revolution in Mexico. its just something i think makes a little more sense, why have thousands of people move if those thousands of people can work together to fix their own town/ city/ county/ state/country.

Mexicans really really don't like to fight, maybe because the first 120 years or so of independence were spent with some civil war or another, except for a 30 year period of dictatorship which ended in the Revolución that killed between 2 and 4 million Mexicans.
There are a few rebel movements, but they're small and lack organization; and there's civil unrest over land disputes, government abuses, etc. but these are mostly movements focused over one single specific thing and tend to be short lived.
However, I don't know how much longer the people can stand this system. There are elections again this year, and people are putting much hope in the new electoral reforms that brough a new party to power last year. They are specially putting much hope in the leftist candidate, López Obrador. I don't know what'll happen if he, or whoever is president next, fails.

great point,,,however, some will say they have lived in such abject poverty, they would become what they sought to change...like another post here..what corrupts the most...power and money, and once you have it,you don't want to lose it.

Cause if they did it the Americans would come in and "save" them and take over Mexico of course.:D

Can't we (Canada) just buy that stupid little Carribian island and then we don't have to worry about Canadians getting killed in Mexico.
My friends and I all loaded up and went to Mexico when I was 19 or so. Just to Juarez to hit the bars and clubs. Well, after about an hour of heavy in a fairly quiet bar, this well-dressed, well-spoken plainclothes officer comes in and shows us a badge. Everyone else who'd been in the bar is suddenly AWOL, and me and all my my white friends are staring at this guy in horror.
He doesn't fuck around the issue, but comes right out and says that if we each give him fifty bucks, none of us will get thrown in jail and forgotten. There was no laughter in his eyes, and I for one knew he would definately bury our asses if we resisted. A friend of mine started to argue a bit, but the guy called out and here comes three uniformed cops from outside, looking very, very hungry. Long story short, we bribed them and headed for fucking America. Lucrative for them, as there were nine or ten of us at the time.
That's my own little shake-down horror story of the Mexican Cheese. I'll never fucking go back. If I want fun in the sun I'm hitting Puerto Rico.
As rascist as it sounds, maybe if the Mexicans DID have a revolution, some of the illegals around where I live would get the fuck out of here. I'm all for Immigration and seeking a better life, but I'm also all about learning the customs and language of where I live. Sadly, most of our neighborhood Aliens have no such motivation. Instead, -I- get passed over for jobs because my Spanish is fairly bad, while THEIR ENGLISH IS FUCKING NONEXISTANT...
Yeah.

The only Latin American countries I would feel comfortable going to the cops for anything are Cuba...and southern Chile (not in the capital of Santiago). Other than that, they expect bribes, hassle you, and generally cause you difficulty.

Haven't you heard of the Zapatistas (http://www.heureka.clara.net/gaia/zapatistas.htm)?

Does anybody know whether there is a term limit in Mexico, or can Vincente Fox be elected as long as he decides to run.My knowledge of politics in this country is woefully inadequate. Thanks

Presidents are elected for one six-years term. There's no reelection.
You can thank Santa Anna and Porfirio Diaz for that.
