Stairway to heaven is a piece of garbage

Stairway for sure. You just need a good live version.

I much prefer Stairway to Heaven. Hotel California is ok, but Stairway is an epic classic.

No, Cygnus X-1 by Rush is fucking awesome. Hotel California is trite and boring.

Both are overplayed and overhyped, but Stairway is still a fantastic song.

Potarius you fool.

I'm afraid not. Rush are technically superior to the Eagles in both lyrical and instrumental songwriting.

Technical jargon aside, Rush are pretty awesome.

Of these two, Stairway. The symphonic version is sweet, too. I've got nothing against the Eagles, though, and thank them greatly for "Journey of the Sorcerer".

never really got the reason why people like stariway to heaven so much, and hotel claifornia is just alright, so i choose neither, in fact i throw in another song, that song is, "Won't get fooled again" and just for the hell of it, some dehydrated water for who ever can name the group.

Stairway, though it's not my favourite Zep song.

Oh, and the Eagles *are* trite and boring.

They're both way overplayed and I don't much care for either, but at least Stairway is a good song by a great band. Hotel is a mediocre song by a mediocre band. What else did the Eagles write besides Hotel California? I bet 75% of people couldn't name another song they did.

I find both songs to be pretentious and overblown, but I can play Hotel California on the acoustic guitar.

Eagles are the fourth highest grossing band on tour right now. Beaten, I believe, by The Rolling Stones, U2 and Aerosmith.

That album, Hotel California, also spawned two other #1 hits, New Kid In Town and Life In The Fast Lane.

My personal favourite by them, however, is Take It Easy from their self-titled first album.

Appreciation from the Eagles really comes from the vocals more than anything else, though they never resort to boring bass or guitar lines.

They also did Desperado, which a lot of people forget.

EDIT: Guess that makes me the fourth person...

Both are overrated garbage, even though I've taken the time to learn both on the guitar. Listen to some Megadeth.

Stairway to Heaven, hands down. The Eagles bore me to death...

Don Henley should get some credit for "The End of the Innocence" and "Little Tin God", but the eagles are still fucking boring...

And how, may I ask, is Megadeth not musical? Because it's fast? Because they don't choose to follow simple chord progressions and choose instead to create more technically challenging music?

I dislike the singing and lyrics, and the guitar sounds like sludge. In addition, most of Megadeth's stuff lacks the texture of some of the classic artists like Bruce Springsteen or The Who.

That said, musicality is overrated. If the music relates well to its audience, then it has performed its function. If you can relate to Megadeth's material, more power to you, but I cannot.

Dave Mustaine's and Marty Friedman's guitars =/= sludge. Their pickups and tone assure that. Also, you dislike Mustaine's singing, but like Bruce Springsteen's? The man sounds drunks all the time.

Touché, and I'll admit that Dylan and Young lack the vocal skills as well, but they make up for it with incredible lyrics.

Yeah, but he's a kind of endearing, smart drunk with a hint of wisdom. Better than say, a pull down your pants and wiz on the daffodils drunk.

To return to the original topic:

Tough choice. I'll honestly have to go with Stairway, even though Hotel California is f'n sweet. And it was the only (yes, the only) good song the Eagles ever made. But nothing can compare to Stairway.

Led Zeppellin kicks the fuck out of the Eagles altogether, but both bands are awesome.

Right on! I always hated hotel california. Mostly because they played it every 20 minutes on the radio when I was growing up. Other Eagles songs are ok and I've even seen Don Henley in concert once around 1990.

Rush was my favorite band growing up. Sub-Divisions is still one of my favorites to this day.

I've never heard Stairway to Heaven, so I can't give an unbiased vote xp

Also, I find the comparison rather interesting just by the names, considering California's name come from a mythical paradise in a Spanish story.

Led Zeppelin vs The Eagles? God, don't make me choose!!

Stairway to Heaven -- total bitch to play/sing because of the high LSD content in the original musicians' systems; interesting lyrics, supposed backmasking hoaxes, and Shakespearean/classical references.. can ya tell I live with a bunch of English majors? lol

Hotel California - the guitar is fucking beautiful. You can almost dance to it, strangely..

I have to say "Life in the Fast Lane," is the only song by the Eagles I like a lot. "Hotel California," isn't bad so to speak, but I have to go with Stairway.

I'd still pick most of The Who's songs are better though, at least, better than these two listed. (A bunch of Led Zeppelin and Pink Floyd is better, at least I think.)

Although I am only 14 I have seen many classic rock n' roll bands. I have seen U2 (3 times), Bruce Springsteen (11 times, my mom really likes him), REM (2), Santana (4), stevey nex (1), Robert plant (2), The Who (3), B B King (3 He throw me a pick), James Talyor (1), Tom petty (1 but I wanna see him again), The Eagles (1), and more. I was lucky and got to hear Hotiel californa. Sadly I never hear stairway to heaven live. I think they are two of the greatest songs ever, but you can't say one is better then another. They are both great, but in differnt ways. I think it depends on the mood.:p
