Who went to Ash Wednesday service? I went to the 7:00pm Ash Wednesday mass. I also brought a new Rosary with a little pouch. Happy Lent everyone!

I almost did, but I thought, "What Would Jesus Do?" Since he never went to church on Ash Wednesday, neither did I.

I waited for the delivery of my new bed instead. :)

It marks the beginning of Lent, and it's where they take the ash of the palms that they burned from the previous year, and they put the sign of the cross (using the ash) on your forehead.

It's forty days before Easter(not countung Sunday). It marks the beginning of Lent. It's kind of like Thanksgiving marking the beginning of the shopping season; Only Forty More Repenting Days Until Jesus Comes Back. :)

I didn't go; I'm a bad Catholic. Never mind that I was at work from 7am til 8pm yesterday. ;)

I suppose the Bible tells people to do this? The ash thing I mean?

Nah, it's a tradition started by the Roman Catholic Church.

Yes. The Catholics love their ceremonies.

A cynic might think that they keep things overcomplicated to keep their positions cemented and the sheep too ignorant to question the shepherds.

But I prefer to think that they just enjoy the elaborate shows. :)

You go to church to get ashes smeared on your forehead and to be reminded that despite the fact that you're here today you will inevitably die, so be careful you don't piss off Jesus.
