I like Classic Rock, like Led Zepplin, The Who, Jimi Hendrix, The Doors.
Stuff like that.
But my true passion is gangster rap. The good stuff, not that crappy Lil' Jon crap.
It's that pinky ring shit, the legend of masked kid
Shoot out the speakers when my guns get jurassic
Superbad, who am I? Dolemite classic
The vandal's back, hands on Angela Bassett
I handle my plastic, gunplay I mastered
No coke, dope mixed down with acid on record
Broken down and crafted in seconds
Lady's choice, the golden voice still peppered
Better, respect it, bitch believe
I pull rabbits out the hat, tricks up my sleeves

Noooo! Sedimentary rocks are an absolute bitch to identify. Igneous is easy, there's only seven or eight main minerals, and they're usually obvious. The only good sediment is a nice quartzite sandstone. Mmm homogenity...

Metamorphic is 73h |20xx0|2z people! Come on, wake up and smell the boiling lava in which it's formed! Anything with the word 'morph' in is cool - they're like the Transformers of geology!
Can you imagine how intense a show like that would be? 'Metamorphics, Sedimen'tries in disguise!!' ... could use some work perhaps. But the potential is there.
But anyway, at the moment I'd probably go for prog rock - Genesis, Peter Gabriel etc etc. The rest is mostly good too, but... I can't be arsed to think of examples :D

SUBGENRE NAMES ARE ARBITRARY.
I dunno. I never think about genres anymore. I just categorize my music with scene and amount of cred. Never genre =/
But, here's a random list of 10 rock bands I listen too. Feel free to tell me what genre they fall under, cuz I don't have a clue. By the way, I don't think that "indie" is a genre.

That would be igneous then, metamorphic rocks are igneous or sedimentary that have been changed due to heat and pressure. *folds arms and *nod**

i disagree, to say indie is not a genre just because it means "independant record labell" is now wrong. Indie used to mean such, but now it has developed its own sounds, deeper vocals, large use of the bass drum etc etc.
Its just like emo, used to mean "emotional music" but now its anything with whiney lyrics and voice and stuff.
It may not have been a genre, but it is now.
Punk rock and indie rock are my favourite rocks. Joy division and the smoths are fuking awesome.

Eh, Obsidian is cool, but besides that. Sedimentary FTW!
Soft rocks suck....anything you can dissolve with dilute HCl is not worth the time of day.....a nice hard rock is best, preferably a high-U granite which has either miarolitic cavities or has been slightly weathered producing secondary minerals! :D

I'm not sure for what exactly you're blaming the two - your lack in posting clarity skills or our differing definition of "rock" - but I've been a victim of neither American schools nor CNN, and I was very surprised to see the OP talking about music, so there. :p

Now, if it's music were talking about; harimetalishhardrockmetal will do it for me. Anything from Twisted Sister to Motorhead to whatever.
To the OP; my sister met Nickleback the other week when the played in Lethbridge. A client of hers invited her to the show, afterwards they went to some bar and Nickleback came in and Ryan Peake hung out with them.

that is everything i was going to type in. damn you pure metal, the name fits you perfectly. I wish there was a shaking fist smiley.
alrite my favorite rock type of rock would have to be indie, alternitive, or punk rock, but i dont know it all depends on my mood and what im feeling like listening to, my music varies from rap to heavy metal so its just whatever
