That's right, it's been 20 years since the Nintendo Entertainment System was released in the US. There is no doubt that this little 8-bit system changed the world of gaming forever, and made names like Mario and Zelda household words.
What are your memories of this now ancient console. Do you still have it lying around? Discuss!
Also, as an added bonus, which NES-game was your all-time favorite? Here's my own list, but feel free to add your own:
- Super Mario Bros.: The true breakthrough for our favorite plumber and a landmark in gaming.
- SMB 2: Previously Doki Doki Panic, a chaotic offshoot of Mario that's a great game nonetheless.
- SMB 3: Possible the best Mario game ever.
- The Legend of Zelda: The original that started a massive series that remains to this day.
- Final Fantasy: Also a first in a long-running series, and a great game for its time.
- Metroid: Innovative, challenging, and you play as a GIRL! (OMG!)
- Blaster Master: Great music and gameplay, and just plain fun.
- Contra: If it moves, shoot it!
- Mega Man 2: Possibly the greatest sequel ever, and the real initiator for the series.
