What'd you want out of marriage?

For me it would be:
A partnership in which we could pool our financial resources together in a resonable manner that would lead to mutually beneficial effects.

An intellectual partner who will share his or her thoughts with me and someone with whom I may converse on a wide range of topics such as economics, politics, philosophy, and etc.

No sex, not because I hate the idea, but because I don't feel a need or an urge to. (I'm biasexual). I also hope s/he would not be too emotional: cynical, pragmatic, analytical, and assholish. Those would be the traits I would want in him/her.

But I probably won't meet anybody like that for a looooooong while.

When people ask me about marriage, I just say: Ask yourself honestly, who would marry me?

I am morally opposed to the idea of marriage.

In fact, I probably shouldn't even be in this thread, so I might as well just leave...

As far as a meaningful, long-term relationship goes, pretty much the things mentioned (except that I do want sex). Marriage, however, would probably be a symbol to the outside world of mutual commitment, rather than the situation in which all those things take place (since in my case they do, and we're very definitely not married). So from marriage specifically, beyond demonstration of my commitment, I would be seeking security more than anything, I suppose.

I don't believe in marriage. I'm getting a civil union. BTW, I'm straight, but I'll fight to the death so I can live with my woman and not call her my wife.

I accept. You were gonna butcher me anyway, but at least now it'll be interesting.

I'd be happy enough to co-habit, but I discovered the other day to my shock that co-habiting couples have very few legal rights, despite the fact that after x number of years of living with someone they're known as your "common law wife/husband".

Financial advantages, intellectual stimuli, steady sex. The latter two can be had without marriage. However, marriage earns a couple tax free workplace benefits, retirement and survivor benefits, lower insurance rates, income tax deductions, automatic inheritance rights, preferential estate tax treatment, etc.

The United States has made marriage a smart economic choice. If not for that, I wouldn't exchange vows.

I have everything I want in my marriage, it's hard to make a list though....

I can't really think of anything we are missing, or anything we could improve....

Someone who:

Loves me as I am.

Laughs with me when I laugh.

Has a considerable amount of patience for my mischievous antics and/or those of my offspirng.

Has a voracious sexual appetite.

Likes playing in mud.

Four out of five wasn't bad. :p

I want a woman who will love me for who I am inside and out.

I want someone who will be there for the good times and bad times

I want someone that I can hold in my arms in the middle of the night and it will give me the best feeling in the world.

I also want soemone that not only I can take care of, but she can take care of me.

I want a woman who is willing to pool the resources in order to pay the bill, but wouldn't mind keeping the money seperate otherwise, unless it's for a special reason.

I want someone whom I connect with on a physical, spiritual, and emotional level.

*sigh* I can dream at least. *walks away and dissapears into the darkness*
