The 3DO was 100 times worse than the 64

besides the 64 has had some of the best games in the last 10 years w/Goldeneye, Zelda, Mario 64, Mario Kart 64, etc.

the playstation 2 and 1. Unless you're not a hardcore gamer. Then they're the best. They're superior casual consoles, with the vast range of games, but I find the X-box, N64 and GC do games "better".

I also wasn't a big fan of the genesis, some good games, mostly shitty ones. Biggest flaw of the genesis to me was the controller. Always enjoyed the SNES controller more.

ah, that game was good, then it became bad. I used to rule at it, then, I stopped for months. Someone brought it up and we played, and was soundly beaten. I hated that game from then on. Mind you, Shyguy ruled. What way was he gonna go? Who knows.

CD32. It had good technology and some games were ok (Zool and the Chaos Engine) but it didn't have the support of the parent company and ultimately didn't have a good market run.

It was mostly bought by Amiga enthusiasts.

The Dreamcast was amazing! sega just fucked it up is all. I'd say the PS2 is the worst just because it is the most technologically weak of its generation. The SNES/mrgadrive were on a par, and the Saturn/PS1/N64. THe PS2 is not only lame but it drags down the quality of Xbox and especially PC games by forcing multi format developers to give games shit graphics. And since the games look shit they dont bother with kickass gameplay because they wont get any credit anyway. There are some exceptions, such as shadow of the colossus, but for the most part the ps2 is a disgrace.

Depends what you call a racing game. If for you a racing game is one with cars that go vroom, vroom; then, yes, consoles are better. If it's realistic physics and cars that you actually have to drive on tracks that you actually have to learn how to drive, then PCs are much, much, much better.

No console game holds a candle to the likes of GTR racing, GT legends or rFactor.

i would go with. . . sega genesis. no reason, i just did not like it.Heretic! The Mega Drive/Genesis was awesome! Such wonderful hardware... (the SMD/Genesis model 2 however, is an evil abomination compared to the greatness of model 1) Especially the YM-2612, the single most awesome sound chip ever to appear in a game console! Don't you just love that extremely synthetic sound, where LFO'ed triangular waves and cold, sterile samples are mixed with ones that seem to have been saturated to death many times over? It also has it's share of games among the greatest ever. (not as many as the ones for the SNES, but no doubt second to it) [/on purpose overdone rant]

As for the worst console, I would say the N64. While it had some great games, some of the hardware was simply horrible. Especially the unforgivable controllers. I swear that they were designed that way on purpose, so that merely using them carefully would very soon cause part of the joystick's innards to dissolve into fine, plastic dust, resulting in it becoming looser and looser, and litterally weakening your control until the game characters can only walk very slowly no matter how hard you push the joystick. That way, people are forced to regularly buy new controllers. [/more-than-slightly less overdone rant]

Sorry but the absolute worst console ever built( and it has been mentioned) is the Phillips CD-i. Probably the most incredibly stupid games ever put on disc.
As for the debate between PC and console, I have mixed opinions. I agree that a PC can (for the time being) produce a better game in most genres. Yet, the cost of a really good PC capable of playing and taking advantage of these better games is prohibitive in comparison to a console. There are also issues of simplicity. Consoles are definately easier to plug in and play. Sometimes a PC game needs tweaking that most people don't want to or don't know how to bother with.
Personally, I prefer PC games. I own a PS2 and I love it too. I play them both.

out of the current consoles which i all bought. the PS2 was by far the worst.

all of the games were crappy remakes of a popular game. and 90% of the games were just crap. i played it for about 2 years and went through about 100 games (i work for a game rental store) and i found like 2 out of the 100 that were fun.

and those 2 games were fun for ONE playthrough.

the xbox i found myself playing over and over again after i beat it. sure it has its share of bad games. but i found that the good games were just so damn fun that i could play them at least 4 times and still find joy in the game.

then theres Halo 2 which is the only console game that i see that is STILL widely played even after a year and a half. no other console game comes close to the greatness of it due to its replayability. hell GTA was good but i stoped playing it after 3 months. Final fantasy X was fine but it took like 6 hours to beat it (100% game rental there.. dont buy it rent it!)

the GC was awesome as well. every game i bought for the console was badass as nitendo makes some quality games. im a huge Mario/zelda fan, and even though i mainly played just those games, it felt worth it.

Games like Goldeneye, Ocarina of Time, Jet Force Gemini, Mario Kart, Mario Tennis and such were some of the great games of all time. Shadows of the Empire kept me enthralled as a middle schooler, and I Of course, there were plenty of shit games out there, but there are always going to be shit games. The N64 was never capable of fielding a quality RPG, which is why I never did wind up as a regular player of RPGs. The controller was somewhat too ambitious and complex for anyone with only two hands, but it was manageable, and I still treasure the controller I got in the box with the system, and remains the the Number one controller slot on the system.

Out and out the 3DO is the absolute worst system ever.

you dont judge a console for its hardware, but for its games. The games are by far the most important thing, but once the hardware reduces the playability, it should be taken into the account.

Eh, my N64 controllers still work fine....well...except for that one I got syrup on....But other than that! What happens is very gradual. Basically, whenever you move the joystick, a very, very tiny speck of plastic is grinded into dust. If you don't use them too often, it can take a year or two before you can see it, and even longer before it has an impact on the usability of the controller. If you use it for hours every day, it doesn't take too long before it gets noticeable. (in any game where the speed of a character you control is determined by how far you push the joystick, the character will begin to walk slower)

In order to find out exactly how worn-out the joystick is, hold it between your fingers and see how far you can move it around without actually having to push it. On a unused controller, you can't move it more that way than a millimeter or two. Once the "loose range" extends beyond about a cm, it will gradually become noticeable. With a fully worn-out joystick, it is completely loose, and by just shaking the controller, you can move it within the whole range.

The XBox blows. Final word. >.>
Well, not really the final word, but, I've never really liked anything I've played on it, and two games- one that is the sequel to another, too- can not hold up an entire console.
However, PS1 and PS2 really aren't that bad. It seems to depend a lot on what you start with and get used to. I used to HATE gamecube/N64 controllers, but I ADORE Zelda and can switch between PS2 and Gamecube controllers pretty easily at this point, but it used to be so uncomfortable.
I love the FF series, and most of the RPGs on the PS2.
Also, at least consoles will pretty dependably play your games. PCs? The cost, and their instability.. Windows sucks. The memory you take up with a good game, the flat keyboard... They need more games for Mac.
And, you have to give nintendo credit, too. They have given us some good machines and some awesome games. Xbox? Yeah okay whatever.

Out of the list, the PS1. I can't think of one decent game on there that wasn't ported to other systems where they looked (and usually played) 10,000 times better. The controller was pretty decent though, i'll give it that.

Every three-four years or so, but the same holds true for computers if you want to keep up with the PC-game industry. And buying a new PC just for games costs a helluvalot more than a console.

But to each his own, I guess. I play the games that I like, regardless of platform. That means that I play my GC most, some PS2, and a handfull of PC games (mostly KOTOR I and II, Morrowind, and Planescape Torment lately).

Completely agree there, except the atari jaguar should be alongside the 3DO
