BUCHAREST (Reuters) - Romanian second division soccer club UT Arad sold a player in exchange for 15 kilograms of meat, local sport daily Pro Sport reported on Monday.

However, fourth division Regal Horia made a bad deal because defender Marius Cioara decided to end his footballing career and take off to Spain to find a job in agriculture or construction.

"We are upset because we lost twice - firstly because we lost a good player and secondly because we lost our team's food for a whole week," a Regal Horia official was quoted as saying by the daily in its electronic edition.

Does this really happen in sports? Where players are traded for goods? A nice little WTF story here. Any thoughts?

Hm, a team of vampire footballers? That would explain what they meant by "food for the week" and why the other player ran off to Spain, perhaps you and I could go out there to investigate? I smell a buddy/road-trip/horror/comedy with a sports subplot.
We might even be able to return in a sequel and side with the vampires against a superior breed (the infamous vampire/zombie/werewolf/Ed Gene hybrid) of footballer so that we can win a tournament and save a local community center from being bulldozed. The mind boggles.
