Well not really. I got a rant about Christain bookstores and I want to hear what all the bible thumpers have to say when I finish.

First off I wasn't surprised when I read this, I've known about the hypocrisy of "Christian" bookstores ever since the ironically named "Bible Store" stiffed a small shop I was working for on some casework we installed for them. And almost everyone knows about the alliance between fundamentalist Christian zealots and the far right of American politics. But the question still needs to be asked "Is this what the message of Christianity is?"

Here's what I'm talking about, the following titles are those of books that can be found in Christian bookstores (source) (http://www.newsreview.com/sacramento/Content?oid=oid%3A47336)

OK what the fuck do politics have to do with religion? Even if we grant that you can't seperate anything completely from politics, where is the balance? You can find books that lay out the case biblically for the war in Christian book stores but none that condemn it as being against christian principles (am I the only one who finds that strange?). How come there are so many biographys of Republicans on sale in a Christain book store? Or am I crazy for trying to make sense of what amounts to an oxymoron, a capitalist venture exploiting a message of charity and peace?

I would like to know which bookstores the person who wrote this article visited. Many Christian bookstores are privately owned and operated.

Mostly the Torah, I think.

But anyway,
The Second Amendment: Preserving the Inalienable Right of Individual Self-Protection
That is the only one that doesn't seem so bad, but what the hell is it doing in a Christian bookstore?
Whatever, they can sell whatever they want as far as I'm concerned,

I had to stop reading the list because I don't really feel like punching through my moniter and getting liquid crystal juice all over my hand. Here's what I have to say about the list: :upyours:

now I'm a little more relieved :D

I think I will respectfully disagree with your premise on this one. I understand Politics and religion are two entirely seperate fields, and I think as Americans we like it this way. However, Christian book stores are private entities, and can express whatever views they want to... Just the same way that Barnes and Noble puts up a huge display for Michael Moorer books, but you often have to look behind other books to find conservative views there. I think Morality is a big selling point "traditionally" for the conservatives, and if they share the same views as the Christian Right, so be it... they are merely excercising their first amendment rights.. You always have the choice not to shop there..

It's not surprising that zealots allow their faith and political agenda to mix. They don't recognize the legitimacy of other people's belief. That's what they do.

I almost think that makes it funnier. that's right. A man who lived over 2000 years ago would have been a modern republican. Yep. Good for you...did you write that all by yourself? *pats on head and gives author a cookie*

Smart Christians (I know that sounds like an oxymoron) hate this sort of stuff. Seriously, Jesus taught about loving your neighbor and loving your enemies and "Let-he-who-is-without-sin-cast-the-first-stone and Don't-tell-your-friend-has-a-piece-of-sawdust-in-his-eye-when-you-have-a-log-in-your-own-ism" (Basically don't judge others before judging yourself). 92% of Christians (At least all the ones I know) hate Pat Robertson, supposivly the holiest man next to Jesus because he has a low budget cable show. Let's assassinate Hugo Chavez (sp?), Jesus would have wanted it that way... I hate those hypocrytical bastards...
