Well, your troops (I'm assuming America) or my troops (Canada)? I support my troops, hell I'll go as far as to say I'll support your troops. Do I support the decisions to go to war, no, but that does not mean I'll abandin those who feel it is their duty to protect their nation.

If you're speaking of American military personnel, I support them totally. Just because politicians sometimes utilize them on ill-considered missions does not mean that they deserve less than 110% respect and support.

Wo wo wo, hold on a minute there... I wholly agree with you on the torture part- the ones who took part in that are a bunch of idiots and deserve no recognition for serving any country- but international law? The U.S. Government saw a threat (yes, based on seemingly faulty intelligence, but let's not get into that), and reacted for the protection of the people (not to mention taking out Saddam, which I think he fully deserved). To my understanding the U.S. went to the U.N. but the U.N. declined to help us. Based on that and what the situation in Iraq was like at that time, it seems to me that protection of the relatively innocent and liberation of the Iraqis from a corrupt dictator is better than accepting a "no" and then proceeding to sit back, relax, and enjoy the show. Just a thought.

I support troops that go about peacekeeping in many places in the world. Like Afghanistan (that excludes the Americans of course because they're not peacekeeping, they're hunting windmills) and Kosovo, in Africa, on Haiti and so on.

But that is because they are doing something worthwhile, not because they are troops. Just because someone joins the army they don't automatically deserve respect...indeed you could even make an argument to the contrary.

In a sense, the problem with your post is still on the wall. Think about it: most people here (including I) were insulted that you assume "ours" is a perfect synonym of "us Americans". The book reference maintains the very same suspicion of cultural imperialism.
