Because I have no life:
You are leaving the grocery store when you see a woman shoplift a loaf of bread. You have seen the woman before, and know that she is a single mother of three who does not have a job and you suspect she is homeless. What do you do?

punch her in the face and return the bread.

aren't you progressing the problem by making it okay to steal and to rely on other people for aid?
how does that help?
I pay for the bread, find out where she is "living" and bring buy some blankets and what not to her "home".

The correct thing to do would be to offer her work.
Give a man a fish and you feed him for a day, teach him to fish and he'll feed himself for life.

in the prosses of asking her i would tell her why its wrong no matter what... i would make her go back in side with me when i payed....i all realit if she saw that some one had seen her shop lift and was walking towards her she would most likely run away, so nothing would happen

I pay for her bread, I invite her and her children to my house for dinner, I try to get a handle on the exact situation and offer any help she will accept. ;)

thats a breach of the law, if shes that needy she should go to a soup kitchen.
I would tell her to put it back, and if she dosent, get the manager.

I don't care about the law. I'd pay the shopkeeper so he has no loss, then go talk to her. Try and help her in any way I can.

Make her return the loaf of bread. Then help her get welfare and a decent understanding of keeping a budget. I might even try to get welfare increased.
Oh - and I would buy her another loaf. But she must feel the humiliation of being caught stealing.

A cookie to whoever names the guy who said this.
Depends what kind of mood I'm in. If its a good day, I'll ignore it, but if I'm pissed I'll tell the manager.

A cookie to whoever names the guy who said this.
It is a Chinese proverb, although some attribute it to "Kwan-Tzu", whos writings were a collective work of Chinese intellectuals.

Pay for the bread without saying who may have taken it or why. Seek her out and offer to help her in whatever way I can.

I'd ignore it. Her need to feed her children outweigh the stores need for further profit in extenuating circumstances such as this. And it is not my business, and thus I don't get involved.

I'll join the earlier guy in punching her in the face and returning the bread. It isn't that I object to theft (assuming that neither me nor a friend are getting robbed), but stealing bread is just tacky. Especially since it only ensures that she will steal again, and thus solves nothing.

Ignore it. Hey, she's just pre-emptively redistributing the wealth more fairly!

Stupid idea. The assholes will chase after her if they knew she stole something.
