Best Metal Song of all Time

IDF

what is it in your opinion?

I have to say "Crazy Train" by Ozzy Osbourne. That song has the best guitar intro.

"All aboard! Hah hah hah..

Crazy, but that's how it goes
Millions of people living as foes
Maybe it's not too late
To learn how to love
And forget how to hate

Mental wounds not healing
Life's a bitter shame
I'm going off the rails on a crazy train

I've listened to preachers
I've listened to fools
I've watched all the dropouts
Who make their own rules

One person conditioned to rule and control
The media sells it and you live the role

Mental wounds still screaming
Driving me insane
I'm going off the rails on a crazy train

I know that things are going wrong for me
You gotta listen to my words
Yeh-h
Heirs of a cold war

That's what we've become
Inheriting troubles I'm mentally numb

Crazy, I just cannot bear
I'm living with something that just isn't fair

Mental wounds not healing
Who and what's to blame
I'm going off the rails on a crazy train"

This is like picking only one organ in your body.

I just can't decide, so I'll be ridiculous and pick the bile duct, aka "Fuckin' an Animal" by GWAR.

Way too many to pick just one, and I wouldn't pretend to have heard enough of them to pass a definitive judgement. That said, in order to prevent me becoming a lame fence sitter, I'll suggest

I Could've Been A Dreamer- Dio
Hangar 18- Megadeth
747 (Strangers In The Night)- Saxon

and purely because I love it, even though it probably wouldn't deserve to win

I agree with everyone else here--way too many great songs to pick just one.

I'm going to choose (and yeah, these are newer and less heard-of, deal with it):
Greed - Amorphis. Gets redundant, but I love it. Rocks my socks right off.
Sleeping Beauty - A Perfect Circle. Some people classify APC as emo, not sure why. But this song is great, maybe I love it so much because it fits something in my life. /shrug
Counting Bodies Like Sheep to the Rhythm of the War Drums - A Perfect Circle. Kickass. ;)
Rusty Moon - Amorphis. Not very heavy for metal, but it rocks.
The Clincher - Chevelle. Fuck yeah.
Stricken - Disturbed. :D
Anything by A Perfect Circle.
Anything by Disturbed.

None of those are really my 'favorite', that's way too open a question. They all have elements about them that are amazing. Depends on my mood, too. :D

The best metal song of all time is relative to the mood i happen to be in at any given time. Right now i would say Paranoid.

An anecdote: When i saw Asia (sucky band but they warmed up for Dio, so we were in front row) a friend would yell at them to play Paranoid between, before, after and during every song until the lead singer told him "No we are NOT gonna play Paranoid". Fun to fuck with boring bands kekekekekeke....

In short: Paranoid = t3h Legend = best metal song ever.

Favorite metal song by mood:

Angry: Raining Blood by Slayer
Moody/angsty/something: Cemetery Gates by Pantera
Drunk: Skin O´ my Teeth by Megadeth
Happy/spaced: Holy Smoke by Iron Maiden (go figure)
Regular: Paranoid

First of all, there is no way to pick the best metal song of all time because some have amazing guitar solos, some have amazing drum solos, some have amazing vocals, some have ...etc
Second, Iron Maiden, Metallica, Motorhead (saw them in concert last November, Lemmy still rocks, even at 50+), Dio, Judas Priest, Manowar, etc again, don't have ONE good song, they have a lot of good songs, but if I were to just name a few good ones (everyone does);
Metallica - One or The Memory Remains
Iron Maiden - Running Free or Fear of the Dark
Demons & Wizards - Seize the Day
Motorhead - Killed by Death
Judas Priest - Turbo Lover
Manowar - The Power
Iced Earth - Valley Forge
Children of Bodom - Children of Decadence (or their BS cover of Oops I did it again :D)

Why not change the question to favorite sub-genre in metal, power metal's go my vote. :p

There are some factors that make it impossible. E.g. when you haven't heard a song in a while, it sounds better than if you've listened to it every day for a week.

The amount of variation in the genre is another factor that makes it too hard to choose one.

Anything from Pre-Black Album Metallica is good. Except Fight Fire with Fire, because I hate that song. Personally my favorite album is Justice, and the best song has either got to be Diers Eve, ...And Justice For All. Justie was definitely the last of their truly great albums, even if Black Album is their most famous. Several other contenders are Iron Man, Psycho Man, Paranoid, Sabbath Bloody Sabbath, Children of the Grave. Lots of really good classic Metal out there, not all this New-Metal shit.

Just about anything that's relatively modern by ANY Metal band, except Dream Theater(only one that comes to mind without a sucky album recently), has been unadulterated CRAP. *points at Saint Anger as evidence* How could they have fallen so far? Just one halfway decent song on anm entire album...

As a metal fan since the age of blah and now aged 36 I make the following observations -

Metallica have become weak, farcical parodies of their former selves and should really just go away. Slayer, however, are the obnoxious bastards they always were. Likewise Napalm Death, motorhead etc. They earn less money though, and theres a lesson in that.

Linkin Park embarrass me, deeply. Bon Jovi and any other member of the "poodle rock" fraternity are not now, nor ever will be, metal.

Listening to, and being influenced by, proper punk music is a good thing, trying to rap generally isnt.
A rough top five

1 - "God Hates Us All" - Slayer.
2 - "Farce and Fiction" - Napalm Death.
3 - "Phantom of the Opera" Iron maiden
4 - "Living after midnight" Judas Priest.
5 - "Fast as a Shark" Accept.

I have much more idea what I'm talking about than anybody who can make excuses for a band that involves Lars Ulrich. Look up the word "****" in the dictionary, and you're liable to see a photograph of that fine gentleman.

KISS is more something like Hardrock, mostly.

My Iron Maiden top song is definitely "Hallowed Be Thy Name" (fantastic Intro)
I really like Iron Maiden too, and that is why i cant choose the best song. Because every band playes different. I like Megadeth also, I think that Dave mustaine has a cool voice, not a good one like Bruce Dickison but a cool one. The best Iron maiden song for me would have to be... The Tropper i think...

Right now I love Just Stop by Disturbed but I've always had a liking for Metallica (old), Ozzy, and System of a Down.
