I don't earn any money and I still pay tax :( *stabs indirect taxation*

edit: he means your NS country. No one in the US, except perhaps the very very rich, pays 48% tax. Plus he has 48% on his nation's page.

In my NS Country, it is 37%. I want it to be lowered, but it is that socialist bent I tend to have mixed with the conservative pay thoughts I have that prevent that. I want those social programs, but will not waste money in them.

So, if you count my state and federal taxes together, I am taxed out of my pay at about 26%.

Still again, once I file my taxes and take out my dedictions, my tax rate is 10.02% on Federal and 8.02% on State, making a combined total of 18.04%.

That may seem inexpensive to nations where healthcare is a part of their taxes, such as the UK or Canada (my home country). So, in the interest of fairness, let me explain how my taxes would look assuming the costs would be the same under a national healthcare system as they are under the private healthcare that I have now.

Adding what my insurance costs are as a part of my taxes, my pay taxes go up to about 31% and my post filing tax rate would go up to 23.04%.

Ahhh-taxes. Can't live without them, but hate paying them.

In Ireland you give the government 20% of the first €29,400 that you earn (if you earn less than €15,000 you pay no tax) and everything after that is taxed at 42%.

In some coutries The-very-very-rich pays less taxes because they can create Corps.. set up companies off-shore, etc.. (The Middle class are main tax payers.)I know. And the the corporation can also give them special bonuses given in such a way that they can't be taxed. A more common example of such would be a company car.

But anyway I was thinking of a very honnest rich guy who spent a lot of time playing the stock market, but only made very small profits, if any.

*takes geeky maths hat off*

In some countries (I believe France is one) they take 76% of your first 75,000 dollars (in US money).

Which is imo ridiculous.

Income tax is a rediculous idea. Who ever thought that money could be saftly equated with wealth was badly mistaken. Money, and thus income, is only potential wealth. Wealth is the crap you buy with your potential wealth, the things that actually make your life better: goods and services. We really ought to scrap the whole income tax system and shift to a consumption (sales) tax.

I haven't seen this as an issue in NS yet though, but it is in the US congress (the "FairTax").

100% I used to be a lot more socialistic and now I have to start reversing my policies in order to get a better system. I still have a good economy though! I just wish that my tax rate was reasonable.

I'm not exactly sure, but it's more likely that the money you earn after the first US$75,000 is taxed at 76%. But that figure sounds outdated, considering that this is 2006 (even Sweden has a top rate of 60% now) and that France has a right-wing government.

I'm at 71% right now. A short while ago that number was pretty high, and I thought to myself "I need to get that number down". I guess it's working. I think my economy is even improving, although I'm not sure if this is the cause.
