A super dooper moral dilemma

This is partly in response to the "Moral Dilemma" thread, and because I want to know your opinions.

Here's the quesiton: If you had a choice between killing yourself and a million people who you will never know, see, or otherwise be personally affected by, who would you kill?

Not doing anything results in your death and the death of a million people, and the killing is done by an atom bomb if you kill the million people, and if you kill yourself, it is done by a pistol

An atom bomb that will subsequently kill millions more from radiation poisoning, cancer etc.? Or a special, magic A Bomb?

Rather them than me...

It's a special, magic A bomb. They will be vaporized in one second.

I'm guessing that most of the people who voted for the million people would never push the button if it really happened.

Alright, I'll play along...
Whereas I could possibly justify killing one innocent person in such a situation in that I would also be innocent, I would kill myself in this situation.

And how in the hell is this ever going to actually happen?

Bush could declare that it was vital for the War on Terror that he be allowed to kidnap people and make them choose between shooting themselves and nuking a million people. What's more the Republicans would defend him, saying: "He needs every weapon available to him" and "Don't you love freedom?"

Bush has special, magic atomic bombs?

Oh, right, the ones he stole from Saddam.

I couldn't nuke the million people, because atomic bombs are evil. Instead I would have to kill every last one of them with the pistol.
It will take a while, but at least I wouldn't have to make the terrible sin of using the most efficient tool for the job.

I'd like to think I'd kill myself and save everyone else, but I really don't know how I'd react in that situation until I'm in it.

i couldnt kill myself, so if it was truely up to me i guess no one would die, but if it was someone else that was going to kill me or a million people, then i guess i would have to choose them killing me because if they are willing to kill a million people anyways whats going to stop them from killing me after i was to push the "button"

What is a million people anyway?

Compared to a lifetime of whatever you're doing.
