I fear the big names at Man Utd (Rooney and Ronaldo) will prob prove a little too effective for Wigan.

That said, tmrw I want Wigan to win. It's always nice to see an upset! :D

What will happen: 2-0 Man Utd

What I hope will happen: 2-1 Wigan

It's one of the two English domestic cup competitions.

i.e. Not the FA cup, the other one.

It's usually seen as the lesser of all 3 domestic titles to be won.

During each season, soccer teams in England have certain tournament trophies to play for. These tournaments are held totally apart from league play.

There's the Carling Cup and the FA Cup (at least those two... and there are things called "Shields" as well, though i don't know how they figure out who gets to play in those)

The Carling Cup is a tournament involving English Premier League teams only (i think).

Whereas the FA Cup involves English teams from all levels of FA (Football Association) play -- EPL (top flight), Championship (the second level), Second Division, Third Division, etc.

okay, brits, answer this for me please:

What the hell is a shield?

EG, who plays in them, are the same teams always involved, etc.?

There is the Community Shield, which is played for by the league champions (which is decided by a round robin season with the top twenty teams playing each other home and away) and the FA Cup winners (a simple knock out tournement involving hundreds of teams).

There is one shield.

It's the Community Shield and its a kinda competative friendly between the winners of the FA Cup and the Premier League.

If one team wins both, its the runner up of the FA Cup against the winner of the Prem, IIRC.

Second Div and Third Div are League One and League Two now.
