The next King of Democracy

I just ran a thread similar to this one, and it was overwhemingly for Jon Stewart. However, several people made suggestions of people who were not on my list, so I have now included these. However, I want to see how these what if candidates stack up against real politicians likely to run in the next election. Even though the running of some of these individuals is unlikely, please vote honestly considering who you would vote for if these were actually all running.

If these were to run for office, for whom would you vote? (see poll)

I'm going to print screen and send the results to the winning person on the poll, so comment on this thread.

- and just for clarification: its Sinbad the COMEDIAN, not Sinbad the PIRATE.

Unless something changes(which I honestly dont think will happen), John McCain has my vote, he would a great President. He understand what needs to be done on national security and he's for middle class tax cuts. Hes also tougher on immigration than Bush(big plus). At the same time he's not a religious wack like Bush which means things like gay rights, abortion, and stem cell research will be protected. Being a democrat, I wish I could vote with my party but they have to give me a descent option( and Im sure as hell NOT voting for Hillary).

How am I going to send the results to a semi-mythological barbary pirate from hundreds of years ago?

I thought he had a rather strong showing.....

Whoa there! Only the English know Sindbad the Pirate? (It's "Sindbad" where I live). Nu-uh. And we don't know him from some weird-ass TV show either, but from old children's stories. It's right along the lines of Ali Baba and the 40 Thieves. So there.
And I've never even heard of "Sinbad the Comedian". Pfffft.

Heh, no, Germany. We're infamous for a lot of things, but Adding a D is not one of them. :p

The second link also reminded me that both the Sindbad and Ali Baba stories are from the "Märchen aus 1001 Nacht" collection - literally "Fairy Tales from 1001 Nights", dunno if they exist in English.

ETA: Oh, "Aladdin" is from those stories, too! And guess what - in German it's "Aladin". So there. :D

Stuff the comedian, Sinbad the Sailor for President! First up he should be ordained with an honorary 'pirateship' (a title, not a sea-faring vessel! Think 'piratehood'), for his lifetime experience in sea-borne theft, murder, and treasure gathering. Then he can run the relevant autority through whilst being sworn in, then go on to comandeer the whitehouse! From that day forward the U.S.A would be referred to as a ship, and Sinbad as it's Captain.

The only problem I can see is that Sinbad is not only an Arab, but he is also a muslim (though not terribly devout, he has witnessed Allah performing miracles on several occasions). Granted he's a Pirate, perhaps the people of the USA will let it slide. Ultimately, anyone who does have a problem is free to choose between walking the plank, or a lengthy keel hauling.

Personally, I say we ressurect Bill Hicks and make him president. But since that's not an option, Jon Stewart.

And I have a question: Why would anyone think Sinbad the comedian would be a good president? I could kinda understand the pirate, but...?

I would not only vote for Colin Powell, I would work my ass off to get him elected. IMHO, he exemplifies the ideal combination of steely resolve with a great compassion. Unfortunately, unless he's changed his mind, Mr. Powell doesn't want to be President. :(

I would vote for any combination of the following as a ticket: Colin Powell, Rudy Guilliani, John McCain, Condoleeza Rice.

I don't like how the disasters follow Guilliani. hes at ground zero when 9-11 hits while every other politician scrambles, thats good thats heroic, but then hes also in London only a few blocks away when the subways are hit...... if he came to Sacramento I would take a vacation.

I do agree with you there about Colin Powell, he is very level headed and would make a very good President for the US.With him being a former General and a member of the joint chiefs and showing a preference for diplomacy, he knows the workings of war and thus, would not rush blindly into it.

Yeah, pity last time he was going to run he quit because of threats from racists against his family if I remember correctly. I would have voted for him.

I'm unaware of any "threats" from racists or otherwise. My understanding is that his wife was instrumental in his decision to not run. What went on between them is unknown to me and is actually none of my business.

I'm sure after his lesson on teaching Canadian politicians how to make attack ads, he'd have overwhelming Canadian (and possibly international) support!
Go Jon!
