KFC To Hide Secret Message In TV Commercial
Viewers Will Need To Record, Decipher Message For Free Food
POSTED: 9:52 am EST February 24, 2006
LOUISVILLE, Ky. -- KFC has a secret it wants to share.
Not the ultimate secret -- you know, what's in that combination of herbs and spices that gives Kentucky Fried Chicken that unusual flavor. That one remains under lock and key.
But marketers for KFC have come up with a television ad campaign that could bring any viewer willing to put in a little work a free sauce-drenched Buffalo Snacker chicken sandwich.
All they need to do is record the ad, play it back and crack a hidden message.
The aim is two-fold: interested viewers will have to watch the ad. And, according to chief marketing officer Scott Bergren, it creates a little fun on the screen.
The ads are airing on NBC's coverage of the Winter Olympics and programs on the major television networks.

Who here would seriosly go through all that for a free sandwich?
Not me personally, and not just because it's KFC. Because if i'm hungry i will defintely not feel like going through all that for free food.
There needs to be a poll here.
*poll coming*

Of course not.. they work in KFC! But it's your duty as a consumer to brighten their day! And, who knows? You might meet a life long friend or future wife or maybe even a fuck buddy!

How does it work? You crack the message, walk up to the counter, say the phrase or whatever it is, and get your free sandwich?
Sounds like dozens of free sandwiches to me, if you´re willing to rotate through restaurants.
BTW, I voted no, not only because I lack the equippment (I´ld need to get a TV first, which would raise the 'free sandwich'´s cost noticably), but also because I prefer home-made food over fast food chain food any day of the week.

One person needs to figure it out, then tell everyone else on the internet. Not the best idea from KFC.

My father and I got food poisoning from KFC, so they could offer me free dinner for life and I wouldn't take it. But I'd probably take a free burger from McDonalds or something. Free is free.

Well, you got the food poisoning for free...

you have to figure payoff vs. work. I don't think it's that much work for a free sandwich, but then again one of my hobbies is getting free stuff, so like 3/4 of my mail is free stuff (t-shirts, flash drives, food, gift cards, ect. ) I have even gotten a free purse (it's pretty cute) free wine bottle sealer (so you don't have to drink the whole bottle in one sitting) free cocktail glasses, and I am currently expecting a free optical mouse within the next week or so........
anyway, yeah, it's free, I would do it. ;)

WSOC is a Charlotte station. Do you live in or near Charlotte? Because I do.
*Edit* Nevermind I just noticed it said you were from Savannah which is a very nice city and I love going there. I'm heading down there in April for a little r&r.
