V for Vendetta
Who here is excited for the movie hitting theaters at March 17th? I personally am because I think this movie will provoke discussion and
debate about terrorism and really when it's necessary. Also, I believe
it will have parallels with some policies held today in different governments around the world, and perhaps show how a masked terrorist works. Anyways, I love the comic and hope this will be a great adaptation what do you think?

I'd take V much more seriously if he didn't wear that almost comic-looking Guy Fawkes mask :D

It looks fairly slick and entertaining. I am definatly going to go see it even though I prefer a good horror film next to action :P

As with all of Alan Moore's works the book itself will always be better then the movie.

I don't trust the Wachowskis to tell a good story, don't know the director. The book is one of my favorite graphic novels and I've always maintained if carefully done it would make a great translation, but there is a dry quality to it that is betrayed by the flashy trailers. I'll reserve judgement until I actually see it, but I'm a little nervous.

Most likely. :(
I always thought The Watchmen might make a good film, but then I remembered that there would never be a director/producer up to it.

It's a central symbol of his character, so he wouldn't actually be who he is without it.

Oh yea, I know about its relation to V, since Mr Fawkes was another well-known British anarchist

I don't think they could ever, with the way superhero movies seem to be made now, make a decent movie version of the watchmen. Its just too complex and long that it wouldn't all translate onto the big screen and some vital stuff may be left out.

One day I hope that 'observations' like these will be put in a trunk with "It's not as good as thier first album" and "It was better before it got big."

Do you think his actions for trying to blow up the parliament were justfiable?

Its not that I don't think books can't be made into good movies. Its just that Alan Moore's work is always butchered when it goes to the big screen.

But what about the pain and sufferering of the one who finds said trunk and opens it?

Just for the record, "The book was/will be/is always better" is to actual understanding of critique as "Some of my best friends are black" is to proving 'progressive' thinking.

Sorry to burst you guy's bubble, but Alan Moore called the script 'Imbecilic'. When a producer (who was with DC comics) claimed that he was supportive and enthusiastic of the movie, he was so angy he demanded that they retract the statement and make a public apology. When they refused, he quit DC comics (again) and demanded they don't put his name on the movie.
(as an aside, he was so angry about 'Constantine' that he refused all royalties from the movie, giving them to the other co-creators.)
So I'm not holding out much hope for this movie. It spells 'T-U-R-K-E-Y' to me.

All I know is that Natalie Portman is in it, and I think she gets naked.
That in itself is enough to get me to see this movie, not to mention killing statists.
At the very least, it will have some cool action sequences. I loved the comic books, and I still have hope for the movie.

I once traded a copy of Angry Candy (by Harlan Ellison) for one of V For Vendetta. I didn't realize I was trading it at the time; I thought we were mutually lending books. Then they moved out of town very suddenly, and I never heard of or saw them again.
Nearly the same thing happened with the second copy of Angry Candy I owned. Tn this case, the other person had a psychotic episode and moved out of town very suddenly. I got a stack of video-games in return.
Last year I was given a third copy of Angry Candy for my birthday, and although I haven't bothered reading it (or lending it out) since, I keep it right next to that copy of V For Vendetta.
I'm looking forward to the film. And no, it won't be as good as the book, but I'll go in with low expectations and let myself be pleasantly surprised, I think.

Hark! He speaks wisely!
If you go expecting the impossible, you will always be disappointed. I prefer to think: "That was better than I expected", rather than "Well, that was a major disappointment..."
Don't worry, be happy!

True, and I hear the script was written prior to the Matrix trilogy. Not sure if that means anything, though.
you have to admit The Wachowskis are great visionares.

Watch me not admit that at all. Just watch.

Is anything that features a totaltarian police state infringing on 1984? V for Vendetta was inspired in part by 1984, but that doesn't mean it's infringing on it.

I don't think it's going to be the great movie I hoped it would be, but so far I've not lost all hope. I'm just afraid I will spell B-E-L-G-I-U-M after seeing it. :(
