RE: Worshipful Praise

All hail and bow down to the masterful wizards of Hornady, for they have doubld the range and delivered energy of the .30-30 and increased both for every other Lever Gun round available by 70-80yds!

The new LEVERevolution is a spitzer with a "memory" flexible polymer tip that is safe for tubular magazines.

It zeros easily at 200 and has only 14" drop at 300 (vs over 30" for round nose) and delivers more energy at 300yds than round nose can muster at 200!

Plus, the polymer tip acts as a psudo-hydrostatic wedge.

Take that you bolties! :p

i had a marlin 336 in 30-30...great gun,but if i am gonna use a lever gun, instead of my .270 with high energy polymer tipped bullets(and a bolt and 6x24x50 scope..with an ilumminated reticle)it will be my marlin guide gun in 45-70!
the only reason to use a lever(brush gun)is for close shooting at dangerous game(big nasty ass bears coming into camp comes to mind)or close shooting at food, why use a 30-30 when you can use a 45-70 with all the extra knockdown power for deer, and extra protection against fanged critters?

if it aint close, use a scoped bolt action imho, much more accurate and powerfull at all ranges.

levers are great for close in stuff, then again so is a shotty with a rifled barrel and sabot slugs.(got that also..woohooo)

however, your point is correct,if i still had a 30-30,i would love the extra energy and accuracy afforded by the new rounds!

i love the new high energy/light magnums available for the .270..it flattens the trajectory out,and hits alot harder!

i imagine all the 30-30 owners are jumping for joy...i know i was when i found buffalo bore for the 45-70..kicks like a mule but will drop anything that walks in north and south america..probably anything really, with good shot placement.:sniper:

do you know if they are doing the same thing in the 45-70 caliber?
if so..christmass time for me!

According to the article in The Rifleman (March 2006 issue) it's almost ALL (non pistol) lever calibers, including .444 and .45-70.

Not even the Buffalo Bore can compare with the .457 WWM... Imagine an 18" Marlin that can be disasembled between shot and still do this:

http://wildwestguns.com/CoPilot_And_Guide_Rifles/drewtarget.jpg

Now add the capacity for using a "stretched" .45-70 that is firing a 350 grain premium Kodiak "Bear" Bullet at 2200 fps for maximum shocking power and 405 grainers at 2000! (How about FORTY INCHES of penetration at 100 yards into a trophy brown bear expanding to .70? Or a shoulder to shoulder shot through a moose with the slug expanding to .90? )
http://wildwestguns.com/4570457Shellcomparisonsmall.jpg

Couple all that with the new Hornady .45-70 Government, 325-gr. Evolution (2,050 fps) and a handfull of light "cowboy" RNFP lead loads the only thing you couldn't hunt would be critters weighing less than 50lbs.

Yes.

But you don't have to sell your Guide Gun. Just send it in (to Anchorage Alaska) for Conversion. :D

When I lived in Anchorage, I used to do all my gun business at WWG. Jim West is a very cool dude.

Anybody who can build a lever gun to handle .454 and .500 S&W is a gunsmithing god.

On another note, one of my absolute fav guns was the Savage 99E lever in .308 Winchester (7.62 NATO). I can't remember anymore exactly how they got over the spitzer problem (I think it had a 5 rnd internal box) , but they did.

Sweet gun.

I just read about them this morning. Wicked cool. I may have to buy a 30-30 now, to complement my Marlin 1894 in .44 mag.

Doug D.

I used the new LEVERevolution 45-70 to take this 1000 lb. buffalo in the Nebraska Sand Hills. I used a Marlin 1895 "Cowboy" rifle with buckhorn sights at 102 yards. The bullet performance was perfect. I shot him once broadside, the bullet went through both lungs and exited. The buffalo went about 10 yards and dropped.

*Doug is a Hornady Technician and used prototype 45-70 LEVERevolution ammunition that will be commercially available Spring 2006.

This is a Montana mule deer shot with Hornady's 160 gr LEVERevolution .30-30 ammo. The LEVERevolution ammo performed flawlessly. I laser ranged the deer before shooting - 309 yards. Knowing that a 200 yard zero with the LEVERevolution ammo has a 12 inch drop at 300 yards, I held at the top of his back, touched off the trigger of my Marlin XLR rifle, and dropped him with one shot. NO HOLDOVER at 309 yards with a .30-30. Amazing!
