Direct democracy.

I'm wondering what the definitions of the suggested forms of government by posters other than the OP are.

Direct democracy would never work, IMO. 99.999999999999999999999999% of the people in the world are far, far, far too stupid (with only a few exceptions).

In answer to the question, though, my favorite form of government is a benevolent dictatorship, that, if it were an NS nation, would have the following ranks:

Civil rights: Frightening
Economy: Frightening
Political freedoms: Outlawed

There is no government in the normal sense of the word: however, a small group of community-minded, pro-business individuals concentrates mainly on Law and Order, with areas such as Social Welfare and Social Equality receiving almost no funds by comparison (i.e. NONE). Income tax is unheard of.

And how would this benevolent dictator be chosen?

I would be the benevolent dictator in question. I'd allow people to do almost anything they wanted. They'd be able to do virtually everything except vote (although local elections would be tolerated, and individual communities would be able to vote on which economic system they wanted).

Everyone would be allowed to own guns. If the people felt I was becoming too dictatorial, they could overthrow me.

Leading to you being overthroen the moment someone with a large following decides they want a slice of that power.

You see, A Benevolent Dictatorship is only theoretical, and probably wont be anything else, because only utter bastards ever find their way into power.

Personally I go for a whammedocracy - government by a bunch of blokes in the pub.

Having a choice as to who leads you (or doesn't lead you) is always better than not having a choice.

There've been a few benevolent dictators. That's true, power doesn't always corrupt. Charlemagne is a good example of a benevolent dictator.

But you having a choice means everyone has a choice, and lets face it, is the world best served by the people who are best at playign the meda being in power?

And personally I dont think power corrupts at all, I just think corrupt people are more able to get INTO power.

Now THAT I can agree with! That's why democracy would only work in a perfect world- where everyone is intelegent, rational and honest. It's an idealist's pipe dream in reality.

I would think perhapse a council of monarchs would work (er... polyarchs?) No one has authority over the others, concencus or at least majority vote amongst them would be the rule; there's a low chance the majority of them would be evil. When any decision is made, the opinion of all polyarchs is presented to the people, then if the people decide to overthrow some they'd know if others are on their side. Use elected representatives to inform the polyarchs of the people's position, but these representatives can only pass on opinion, they have no authority and the polyarchs can choose to ignore it.

I dunno, that seems like it could work.

So not true. Consider Costa Rica:
"After more than a decade of political turmoil, General Tom s Guardia seized power in 1870. Though he ruled as a military dictator, his 12 years in power were marked by progressive policies like free and compulsory primary education, restraining the excesses of the military and taxing coffee earnings to finance public works. It was Guardia who contracted Minor Keith to build the Atlantic railroad from San Jose to the Caribbean."

This dictator did more for his country's benefit than any democratic polititian, and his departure was almost immediately followed by civil war because the first 'democratic' elected goverment refused to give up power when voted out.

Now here's an issue with democracy: Like any leaders, those elected care first and foremost about staying in power. Even a good leader believes they need to stay in power for the benefit of their nation. They do this by keeping as many votes as possible, and avoid doing anything that they know would cause them to loose favor with a demographic. And what's one of the largest demographics in north america? Criminals. As long as criminals are alowed to vote, they will not be sufficiently punished; any leader who strengthens laws looses the votes of a lot of people. Since the favor of those who obey the law can be attained by alternate means, the justice system continues to get more slack and crime runs rampant. Anyone who does anything about it is voted out in favor of one who might reverse the improvement.

Stupidity is not a sufficient reason to eliminate self-rule. But I would support a minarchist monarchy before I supported a bloated democracy.

The obvious drawback to a despot is the impossibility of finding and maintaining a benevolent ruler.

It's refreshing to see the logical choice of so many "libertarian" capitalists, that is, dictatorship. Such consistency is commendable.

I'm a big fan of enlightened dictatorships where I would be in charge.

I would surround myself by capable, uncorruptible ministers and I would consult them and the rest of the population I rule, but I would retain a veto over the policies and anything the government is involved in.

My NS nation is a copy of the RL government that I think is best.

I consider the best form of government to have existed to date was the Ustashe government of Ante Pavelic, that ruled the Independent State of Croatia (NDH) from April 1941 to May 1945.

Such a shame that the Bolshevik terrorists of Joseph Tito, with their Jewish and US backers, destroyed the Ustashe NDH.
