I'm not sure there are enough votes yet to outlaw this barbaric practice.

The whole thing is idiotic. We should stick with what we have.

So, we are all aware that this procedure is overwhelmingly used only to protect the life of the mother, aye? Or are there people under the impression that this is available for the teenage girl who cannot be burdened with pregnancy and decides to get rid of it after 6 months?

Unfortunately, there will always be those ignorant people who do not, and by the same token, there will be those on both sides of the debate so blinded by hate as to make no distinction between fact and myth. It is inevitable.

What's the myth, and what's the fact?

What's the myth, and what's the fact?
The myth is that partial birth abortions are simply for women who are too lazy to have an abortion earlier.
Th truth is that they are only available when the mother's health is in serious danger.

Th truth is that they are only available when the mother's health is in serious danger or the fetus is severely deformed/won't survive for more than a few days.

I think abortion should be allowed up until the 63rd trimester.
They are not called "partial birth" abortions. Also they are very rare and in the overwhelming majority of cases, if not all, medically sound.

True. Partial-birth abortions is a political term used to describe certain types of late-term abortions. Two in particular, IDX and D&C. Oddly enough, IDX is the one that more closely fits the 'partial birth abortion' misnomer but D&C is considered the 'less humane' choice by doctors that perform the procedures.

Yes. The term "partial birth abortion" is a misnomer. Fetuses that are aborted by this procedure are not moments from being born as the radical conservatives would have you believe. Around the sixth or seventh month of the pregancy, if there is a serious health risk to the mother, the doctor will artificially induce labor and then destroy the fetus before it is completely dilevered. This procedure is never performed at the last second before a normal birth, like the name would have you believe. (If it were it, would be entirely useless. In fact, this confusion is precisely what causes some conservatives to claim that partial birth abortion is an unneccessary procedure.)
