This isn't a debate about Taiwan's quest for freedom. Just state your position and maybe why.

Crap, I forgot to make a poll...oh well.

Which do you recognize:
People's Republic of China
Republic of China
Both
Neither
PRC, but Taiwan is an autonomous province.

I go with the last one.

I support the right of all peoples to self-determination and democracy. I do not recognize any state as legitimate.

The People's Republic of China. Unless we're in the habit of recognizing the losers of civil wars.

Taiwan means to be an independent state: i.e., not "Would-be China". That is why the Guomindang in Taiwan and the PRC seem to get along as of late.

Anyway, I support the PRC.

Anarcho-capitalist?

Libertarian socialist.

I probably should clarify that with "any currently existing state," in the realm of theory I can come up with a few models that I would be willing to accept.

I recognise both. I don't recognise the right of the US to interfere though, because although they are both political entities, they are still one people.

Both, though I give slightly more regard towards the Republic of China

I'll make a thread on Libertarianism later because I have LOADS of questions on it. It isn't really on topic here.

seriously lets take a vote, who actually cares about how china views itself?
We'll be invading them in the next 5-100 years (assuming they continue gaining power)

No, we won't. Too many economic ties, and nuclear war is not a pleasant prospect for either ruling class.

both of them. i recognize p.r.c. AS china (but NOT it's claim to Tibet). Formosa i recognize as the independent nation of Formosa. Not as china. Not as part of china. Not as legitimately having a damd thing to do with china, but as Formosa, it's own nation in and of itself.

I recognize both. China's claim to Taiwan is very weak, so I don't think they are the legitimate occupier of the Island. I think both Chinas will be integral to the future economic development and health of the United States as well as a valuable ally...if we continue to build ties with China we may be able to elicit the democratization and opening of the society, which would be a great accomplishment.
