76ers, Philly Police Announce Guns-For-Tickets Program
POSTED: 4:13 pm EST February 21, 2006
PHILADELPHIA -- The Philadelphia 76ers and police officials say anyone who brings a working gun to a Philadelphia police station can exchange it for a voucher good for pair of tickets to a basketball game.
Police Commissioner Sylvester Johnson said the program isn't only for illegal guns. He would be happy if law-abiding citizens turned in their firearms, too.
A similar program in 1999 brought in close to 900 guns in just three days.
The city's murder rate spiked last year and is on a similar pace in 2006. There were 380 homicides in the city in 2005 -- the highest total in five years.
*edit* is there any way i can edit the thread title?
