Yep, Calabasas.
ban smoking in all outdoor places, including sidewalks and streets

And it is indeed nuts. Based on the paranoid fear that a guy walking down the street smoking a cigarette gives you lung cancer, but the hundreds of cars driving on the street are perfectly fucking safe.
The funny thing is how some people who advocated banning it in bars said they only did it because it's in a bar, i.e an enclosed area. Now they're banning it in open areas too. Next step? Prohibition!
And all for what?
reduce "the potential for children to associate smoking and tobacco with a healthy lifestyle," protect "the public from smoking and tobacco-related litter and pollution," and affirm and promote "the family-friendly atmosphere" of Calabasas' "public places."
Reducing the potential for children to associate smoking with healthy. Ah yes, because legal = healthy, right? Drink up that tequila, it's part of a healthy, legal lifestyle!
Protect the public from litter? Whatever happened to anti-litter ordinances? Oh yeah, I'll tell you what happened. They became too hard to enforce. Because police have enough of a job without enforcing stupid petty bullshit laws. Their solution, create MORE stupid petty bullshit laws that can't be enforced! Yeah! Way to go!
As for the "family friendly atmosphere," well ya know, swearing isn't family-friendly. The solution? Ban freedom of speech. It's not family-friendly. Right?

And how is that? Second-hand smoke has been proven to be a serious health hazard. If you want to smoke, you can smoke on your own property.
Yep, Calabasas.

Secondhand smoke in the case of people living with heavy smokers for 30 years has definitely proven hazardous.
I differentiate between that and some random guy on the street.
And if it's hazards to health that you want to eliminate, how come you aren't in favor of banning automobiles? They kill people with exhaust AND accidents.

Because if they do this how can they possibly explain away car pollution which by this analogy would be the cause of death for millions....

Just because you get into an automobile does not mean that you are going to get into an accident. Every time you light up in the vicinity of another person, you are damaging their health.

Ah, Without Americans to mock what would daytime radio fill up it's empty schedules with? God bless the USA!
Also, can you put a space after each full stop? It's a little disconcerting otherwise.

No, you are not. The human body isn't that weak.

And every time you drive your gas guzzler down the street you are polluting the enviroment.Every time you start it up in an underground car park you are putting the car parks attendants life at risk. Sorry this analogy cant and won't work.

I am all for trying to reduce the emissions of vehicles as much as possible. I am also for trying to reduce the emissions of smokers as much as possible. Notice that I do not propose that we ban smoking, but merely limit it to private property. In any case, cigarrettes do not have the significant role in today's society that auomobiles do.

It may not be damaging it significantly, but Rome was not built in a day. With every exposure, more damage is done until it becomes significant.

Sorry. Didn't mean to be disconcerting. This one actually is getting air on a serious political programme due to our smoking ban.

I think we should be trying to eliminate SUV's and large vehicles in favor of a system of mass-transit.
Just because you get into an automobile does not mean that you are going to get into an accident.
Ah, Selective Reading Syndrome.
Not see the bit where he asks about exhaust fumes?
Every time you light up in the vicinity of another person, you are damaging their health.
Not true.
Depends how close, what direction you're facing, whether the person breathes it in, and the wind speed and direction.

EHH. Wrong, try again.
Just because there's someone around you in a park who is smoking a cigarette does not mean your health is automatically damaged. If you think it does, you are a perfect example of the irrational fear I was talking about.

It doesn't matter. When you;re the government, you do what is the best for the most people. It so happens that smokers are the minority.

No, wrong STILL. The human lungs do this thing called healing. The whole body does. It's why damage is not cumulative. Otherwise, the fact that I cut my finger 100 times in my youth would mean that if I cut my finger right now, my hand would fucking fall off.
And I'll tell you what does damage health significantly. Stress! By harping on about what to criminalize and outlaw, you cause stress in people that have to listen to you. Stress has been PROVEN to cause physical harm and is a significant factor in many major diseases. Like heart disease, the #1 killer.
Therefore, every time you bitch about how unhealthy smoking is, it causes stress which kills people slowly. You freedom to bitch should be outlawed! For health reasons!

So what your saying is that the good of the many outwiegh the good of the few.
This line is Bullflop.
When you stop taking into consideration the minority and allowing the goverment to make all the decisions all you have left is an Authoritarian goverment.

By the same token, you can't let a minority do something that has the potential to hurt everyone else.

Why does everyone misunderstand? I say we restrict smoking to private property, not outlaw it. Outlawing smoking would simply be stupid.
