NO spineless apologies anymore!

Ok, since I've seen even here now one of these really spineless apologies, of which there are so many lately, just because people are afraid that something bad would happen to them otherwise, I'm now officially totally fed up to the back teeth with this nonsense!

Geez, people, is it that difficult to show some backbone!?
That's just what they want to achieve, having you groveling down to their feet in fear of possible consequences! We must not let this happen! Don't give any more power to these fearmongers, thus:

Uh... apologise for what?

But would be such a heinous crime to apologise for something if, by some strange quirk of fate, you found out you were wrong?

We're sorry Mrs Menzies, but we shot your son. We thought he was a terrorist, but we turned out to be wrong. We were confused because he was wearing a puffer jacket menacingly. Oh, and he jumped an Underground gate, so that makes it alright... hey, remind me why we're apologising. YOU were the one who bore this guy who we shot, and whose death is most likely to cause one of our collegues some trauma syndrome. I demand an apology Mrs Menzies!

And themoral of that story is??????

I have two rules of life which have worked very well for me:

#1: Morals are usually uneffective. Even if they are told in cool stories, they're still stories.

#2: Ethics. A waste of time. Civilisation and civilised society do not need ethics to evolve.

The majority is not 'deluded', the minority is for believing Islam is comprised of angry extremists who hate the West. Also, did you even read SBs post? He wasn't pressured, he listened to a Muslim and read texts about Islam.

It's only spineless if you are apologizing for doing nothing. Some will do that just to appease someone while thinking "What the hell did I do?" But if you actually said or did something stupid, offending or such then apologizing is the right thing to do.

What's wrong with apologizing?
When you hurt someone's feelings without realising it... is it so wrong to apologise? Or if you can prevent people being killed simply by apologising is that so wrong?
Or is your sense of honour more important then people's lives?

MmmmHmmm. I judge scientifc progress more important than namby pamby bureacracy. Culture and individuality is unnecessary. Bring on the faceless Mass.

you can't have scientific progress without individuality, it requires ingenuity - not something you get in a 'faceless Mass'. Besides, scientific determinism is just as bad as any other kind of fundamentalism, religious or otherwise - placing trust exclusively in one doctrine to answer the problems of the world will inevitably produce squewed results. There is always more than one side to a problem and therefore always more than one feasible solution.

and as for the apologizing thing - never apologizing despite being obviously wrong is just the most ridiculous thing. do you think science would have progressed like it has if scientists who were proved wrong never admitted it and carried on teaching erroneous theories and such like? similarely, if no-one ever apologised in politics even in the roundabout halfarsed way of politicians the world would be in chaos - in fact we'd probably all be dead cuz something like the cuban missile crisis would have happened and not been evaded ages ago.

If you do something wrong and you genuinely feel sorry, you should apologise. If you say something asinine and you find out you're wrong, you should apologise or at least own up to your mistake.

Individuality seems to be the cause of many problems in the world.

Getting rid of it means that all the people would follow one simple way of life.

Maybe you could have a council controlling the peoples mass individuality to make the world more efficient?

It takes a lot of courage to admit ones mistakes openly and freely, and it takes a lot of humility to ask for forgiveness for those mistakes.

To suggest that someones apology is somehow spineless, leads me believe that you will never understand courage, nor humility, and if you do, it will be a very painful experience.

If you don't like someone apologizing that would be your problem and not theirs.

I think that the reaction to the comics by those muslims involved in the protests only serves to prove the comics right. Islam is a religion of peace? Regulate yourselves then. Don't go screaming bloody murder at the people who printed the comics just because it causes such an uproar, go screaming bloody murder at the dumb pricks that are uproaring. THEY'RE the ones killing people. So what if muslims say the caricatures are blasphemous. Its not bloody muslims that did the cartoons!

Get over yourselves. Trying to 'understand' the cause for everything works both ways. OMG THEY MADE THE COMICS. OMG YOU BOMBED AN ARMY BARRACKS! Its all about generalities. 'The West' made the comics. 'Muslims' are terrorists... p.s. 'The West' = 1 Danish newspaper and 'Muslims' = extremists, but nobody ever stops to think about that bit, don't they?

Free Speech versus Thin Skin. I say you don't get to claim righteous indignation at the picture of Muhammad, which if I understand correctly there is no scripture actually detailing this taboo unless somebody added it as a footnote to the back of the book, when protestors are murdering children over mere applications of ink to paper.

That's my stand, I won't apologize. I don't claim to blame the lot of the muslims for the deaths caused by the protests, but I do claim to blame the lot of them for being more pissed about the comics than the deaths being committed by their ilk in response.

"No I never was in vietnam
I never once dove into an empty swimming pool
I never let the carpet walk right out from under me
I never painted a house or a tree
I never did become an exotic dancer or a customer service representative
I never took the pulse of a dying duck
Or gave mouth to mouth resusitation to a horsefly
In a way I spose you could say my experience is quite limited
For example,
I never locked Oliver Cromwell in a brrom closet while singing Waltzing
Matilda
I never sawed a television in half
Although I once saw Wendy O'Williams saw a guitar
I never played a decent game of jacks
I never played poker with a toothless one eyed pirate who kept picking his
teeth with a bowie knife to distract me while his parrot looked over my
shoulder and told him what cards I had by using an elaborate code involving
vomiting, chirping and sea shanties
I never bought a lamp
Wait I did buy a lamp once
But I never bought a lantern or a lambskin profolactic
I never bought lima beans or lime pudding
I never bought a lion or a Lionel Richie album
I never bought anything beginning with the letter "L"
Except lollipops, lightbulbs and lettuce ... and the lamp
I never layed down for a nap and found the Everly brotehrs in bed with me
I never let a cyborg take out the garbage
I'm sorry I stole the radio
I did it
I sawed the legs off the periodic table
I re-elected the President
I did it, it was my fault
I farted in the church
I'm sorry I did many many bad things
And I am so sorry"

You seriously didn't even cross my mind, to my knowledge. I thought Evil Little Girls was talking about Imperiux or Heavenly Sex. I have no conscious recollection of your involvement whatsoever. And i agree with your presentation of yourself, i haven't tried to incite argument or flames or anything with you in quite a while. I figured you'd noticed. I do appreciate it, and i'll further qualify that here by saying that i've enjoyed your posts a lot more of late.

But that was Cat-Tribe talking to me. Okay. (?)

And when was the last time you apologized or admitted you were wrong on this forum? Not that I've been checking or anything. Just curious.
No, you're right, i choose my battles carefully, and rarely change my mind.
An example, though, is a thread that was talking about Minoriteeburg's "20 Little-known facts about U.S. Presidents" thread (?) where i mistakenly said "Taft" instead of "Grant"'s visage, referring to $50 bills.
And, i mistakenly asserted that Drunk Commies Deleted was joined at the hip with JesusSaves. I apologized for both.
I might even have apologized for other things. My recollection is spotty right now, though since i'm distractO3d by SciFi Channel's rerun of Galactica 1980. Funny lines, funny when Nazis get flung out windows. But i'm not sure if i like it or not like i did the first time i watched, in 1980 or so. *shrugs*

I'd rather a person admitted to their mistake and learnt from it than apologising. Apologies are pretty much worthless to me, at least in most cases. If you are mistaken, adapt.

No, i haven't even brought you up on this thread.

Well... I certainly didn't bother reading this entire thread...

This sort of extremism is equivalent to that shown by the fundamentalist Muslims who refuse to back down and try to expand their horizons, instead losing themselves to violence. Might I add, those fundamentalist extremists are the minority... thank all things holy and good.

This is obviously a case of stupid people making other stupid people angry, and the cycle spirals out of control.

Well, if the pix tell us anything, i'm going with the idea that his aim is improving. *nods* :D

I got a cynical suspicion ... for a brief flicker ... that he's up'd his status to "puppet adept", and wasn't keeping track of his publishing name. Perish the thought ...
