Well, mine are on the way.
I've been wearing contacts for the last couple of years now, but when I was in Berlin visiting a good friend of mine, I found some glasses that were just perfect (and perfectly affordable, too :D )

So, who else belongs to the select circle of natural moles here?

I'd have to say go for low profile lenses with a scratch resistant coating.Flexon of memoflex frames are the job.The whole lot comes out lightweight, strong and doesn't make you look like a mole

I've worn glasses since kindergarten. I wore contacts for about 3 years, and I liked them, but I spend so much time in front of a computer screen that I was wearing my glasses more than my contacts anyway, so I'm back on the glasses.

I just came into a little money, though, so I might give the contacts another run.

They are handy from a safety point.Nothing worse than having to have a splinter removed from eyeball.

I'm not sure whether to keep my lenses or go to contacts. But I just love the nospads poking into my eye. It feels so good.

Question: Is it normal to move your mouth when adjusting glasses?

I used to like my glasses myself... I switched to contacts while I was in Montreal in the winter 1999/2000. Once the temperatures hit -40, the glasses just hurt where they touches my face, and when you came inside, they wouldn't just fog over but freeze instantly. It was just a bloody nuisance, and contacts weren't that expensive.

I liked my contacts when I was doing a lot of driving--sunglasses were more convenient--and that's why I may give them another shot. I basically stopped because I couldn't afford both glasses and contacts last time I got an exam, but my eyes aren't changing much, and my glasses aren't broken, so I may go with contacts this time and keep the old glasses as backup.

Then all I'll have to do is steal some Oakleys from my brother-in-law. He's spaz for the things--has like 30 pairs, including the ones with the mp3 player included.

And since I drink probably too much, quite dangerous too, I have visions of poking my eyes out trying to put my contacts in.

And is it normal for the nosepads to go right back into your eyes and poke them because it feels good?

I'm a four-eyed.

The little thingy that's supposed to keep the edge from rubbing into your nose (the thingy on the right) fell off, and now I have a wound. I have to stop wearing them from time to tome, in order for the wound to close.

I had glasses for a while, but I just didn't like wearing them from a medieval accuracy point of view, so I stopped. My vision is 20/25, anyway, so it's not really necessary.
If I ever really needed eye correction, I probably would go back to glasses, but contacts have their appeal, expecially the ones that change the color of you eyes.

I wear disposable contacts 24/7 for 6 weeks at a stretch, then I wear glasses for 3 or 4 days to give my eyes a break before I put in the new pair. They're no fuss at all, apart from having to be careful what type of mascara I choose. I just put them in and forget them.

Best part about glasses is being able to take them off whenever. Sometimes it's nice to not be able to see (read: have to see) what's going on at the next table over when you're on a dinner date with your sweetheart. Better that it's all a blur. Also, if you get optical headaches like I do, you have an aspirin-free remedy in your own hands.

Worst part is having to look after them. I'd lose my own head if it wasn't attached, so fuss-free disposable contacts are my best bet for daily wear.

Used to wear glasses but for the last few years been gradually wearing contacts more and more until I basically wear them full time. I really don't think I suit glasses and think they look awful on me, and I also do think the vision is far better as well as it being more convenient for me.
edit: oh, and they're daily disposables though i'd love to get monthlys (the kind you wear for 30 days... heaven...)

Not only am I the runt of the litter (5', whereas my brothers both have reached 6'4"), but I am also the only one of my sibs who inherited my father's terrible vision. My brothers wear glasses when they want to look studious, or fashionable...I can't function without mine. Not only that, I also am the only one who inherited my mother's sensitivity to light. It's not as extreme as it could be, but I tend to squint even on a perfectly normal day. With that sensitivity to light comes a general eye sensitivity. I can not touch my eye. I can not put in a contact. It's like torture, and I just can't bring myself to place a foreign object onto my eyeball. You know that test they do for glaucoma? Where they shoot a puff of air into your eye? Five years running, I just can not force my eye to remain open. Tears stream down my face and I'm flinchy like a freak.

So yeah. Glasses rock. I won't ever wear contacts. Nor can I stomach the idea of laser surgery...especially since most people who get this surgery need to wear reading glasses later on in life anyway. Screw it. What, I look better without glasses? Well you look better to me when I'm not wearing glasses. Hah!

I've been wearing glasses since I was 6. I tried contacts for a short time but they didn't work out - I never managed to get all the cleaning fluid off them in the morning, so when I put them in it was serious ouchies!

I might try those disposable contacts that you can keep in your eyes for a long time, but for now I like my glasses, and I'd feel naked without them.

Well, I'm a thug with mine. Bits are falling off them all the time, and I keep taking them back to the opticians and they keep fixing them for me. I'm on first name terms with the guys now. Heck, when I was in Spain I got a 'little' drunk and smacked my face into a table at a bar, scraped the paint off the 'bridge' part between the lenses (could probably have been worse), and the opticians replaced the whole bridge for me! I don't even have to show them a receipt or anything.

Probably the biggest lesson in this for most people, however, is to not wear glasses whilst drunk. :(

Glasses for me, but thinking about laser eye surgery.A friend of mine got it done recently; she wants to work for the police, but they wouldn't let her in with the vision she had. She's really happy with it. She said it was a bit weird during the procedure as she could smell what she presumed to be her cornea burning (yuk!), but it only lasted a few minutes and now her vision is perfect. She can't rub her eyes or anything for a month - which is obviously tough as you may do it without thinking - but she thinks it's a good trade-off.

My boyfriend, who's completely blind in one eye and short-sighted in the other, has considered it in passing too. He, however, almost certainly wouldn't act upon it as if they fucked it up he'd have no vision whatsoever (given that it was a fucked-up medical operation that caused his blindness in the first place, I can understand his reticence).

I voted for glasses, even though I have contact lenses.

this is partly because I had to go to hospital about a month ago because one of my contact lenses had come off my iris and my attemts to move it back onto the iris had resulted in it's starting to move up to the back of my eye. also, contact lenses hurt quite a bit (especially in sandy areas) and that ain't nice. also, glasses make people look prettier.

(I'd think you should be able to. If your eyes just dry out quicker, you'll just wear them for a shorter time. If ones that are designed to be worn for 12 hours dry out in half that time, it makes sense that ones designed to wear for a month would dry out in roughly half that time. Or something like that. I come from a long line of people who are damn near blind without glasses...I believe my great-grandmother was nearly blind without glasses...I know my grandfather is nearly blind without them...and my mom was as well before she had laser eye surgery. My computer screen sits not two feet from my face, and I can't read it without glasses even if I squint. My glasses are so thick that my fiancee gets a headache from trying them on (thankfully, her eyes are not half as bad as mine.)

I might get laser surgery...it worked really well for my mom. Plus I won't have to wipe off my glasses 47 times a day.

As an aside, my TV just played the Hummer commercial with the three bears, and my dog started barking at the TV as if she wanted to attack the bears on screen. She's a pint-size Yorkie who has more "big dog attitude" than any of us know what to do with...

Noticed my vision was getting increasing blurry 2 years ago. Had a check up. Turns out left eye is massively weak, right eye has been compensating but is now failing. Optician gives me glasses.
"How often should i wear these?"
"Depends on how much you want to see"
"errr, everything?"
"All the time then"

Put them on and walked through the door, last time i saw the world this clearly was on my first (and last) E comedown in '89.

So, a good thing. Downside? If i look particularly grubby and unshaven, there's a definite air of "child molestor" about me wearing them.

I've had glasses for 2-3 years now & have still not completely gotten used to them. And while they're very stylish & hip & black (& sexy, of course ;)) I'm thinking about getting contacts, just for a change.
And if I wasn't too scared about being blinded, I'd go in for laser surgery RIGHT NOW. All my life I never had to worry about my eyesight and I still feel that not being able to see everything perfectly clear is just, just... wrong.

I hear you on the surgery. One slip and they can blind you for good. I think I'll stick with my contacts. *shudders*

I have never needed glasses. My vision is really good-I'm lucky.
I do have a pair of steel framed glasses with clear glass lenses.

Lucky thing you.....

I run into the walls without my contacts/glasses. Everyone and everything looks like its underwater.

I see..the pleasures of knowing you to soon grace our region, the place with the splendid, umm, 100% morally correct and tightly laced and buttoned-up forum.

(P.S. whoa, quite some people who do the clear lenses trick, hmm? And everybody IRL tells me I'm a freak for just thinking about it..)

My mother, my wife and my oldest son need them. I have a hard time imagining how it would be if I couldnt see the things they cant see. For them, its normal and the glasses make up for it.
I would be upset if I woke up tommorrow with blurred vision.

I'm lucky there and thankful for it. I have good healthy teeth too.

Which is good as our health coverage doesnt include dental/vision-so I have to pay cash for all their checkups, etc...

anyone else get really bad eye-induced headaches from their glasses? i find taking them off for a while helps a bit, but turning the lights/computer screen down is what really helps. could be irlen (http://www.irlen.com/sss_symptoms.htm) related, but then it could just be the glasses being scratched or the wrong strength or something.
whatever it is, tis another reason to look forward to getting contacts *nods*

Yes, mine cause headaches frequently. Thats why I wear my contacts most of the time. I think mine are just so heavy, even with the light plastic lenses.

mmm my dad gets em too... glasses actually suck big-time as they even make your vision worse. i mean, sure, you wouldn't be able to see without them, but by wearing them you make your eyesight worse and worse over the years. tis stupid :headbang:

roll on laser surgery...

I've got both glasses and contacts. Which I seldom wear. My vision isn't all that bad, and it's just too much effort to put either of them on/in sometimes.

Legally blind without my eye correction devices. Wear my contacts for football, but they get knocked out in wrestling so I just wrestle blind.

With my glasses I kinda look like Hughes from FMA. :D

Thank you :fluffle: I like them a lot, it's been ages since I last had glasses.

I've heard a few things about those 24/7 lenses. Are they comfortable? And even more important, are they expensive?

If I ever need vision correction, I'd go with glasses. Unless it was really bad, in which case I might consider laser surgery. Doubt I'd want contacts, though.

Glasses of course. The idea of sticking something in your eyes... *shudders*

Agreed! I'm fine with my glasses. Though some of those theatrical contacts I've seen just make it seem so tempting...

i think they're about 20 quid a month... i *think*... i'm actually not too sure. i think there was a 4 in it somewhere... so maybe 24... maybe 40

haven't started paying yet and i only looked briefly on their website (can't find the info now:rolleyes: ) but the price didn't scare me (and 40 per month would) so.... short answer: i don't know...

but do you hear good or bad things?

So far, I only heard they existed ;)
They sound almost impossibly inexpensive.
