A NURSE who slapped a colleague's face with a frozen trout before moving the fish's lips and saying: "give us a kiss" has been struck off.
Britain's Nursing and Midwifery Council ruled at a disciplinary hearing that Patricia Jennings, 55, who also poked a woman's breasts to see if she was pregnant should be banned from practising to protect the public.

In a bad week for the reputation of the nursing profession, Christine Mitchelson, 52, of Newcastle was struck off after the tribunal heard she put a patient's glass eye in a glass of Coca Cola and served it to her ward sister.

Ms Mitchelson faced 12 counts of professional misconduct, including drawing a smiley face on a patient's hernia.

Another demonstration of this countries failure to provide decent nursing.

Meh, it's all in good fun. People take healthcare way too seriously. What is the dignity, comfort and safety of a few patients worth? Certainly it's not worth abandoning one's sense of humor. I say we put whoopie cushions in all the bedpans and hand out exploding cigars to people in the oxygen tents. It would be hilarious.

I saw it in the news last night, so I was relatively sure it was, ahem, new. But perhaps not. Either way, I think it is timely and relevant. Shows how hospital staffing shortages are encouraging the hiring of less and less qualified personnel. I can tell stories of my wife and her nursing job, and the real "screwups" that some of the young nurses, that frankly, should never have passed the boards have done. But the hospitals are so hurting for healthcare workers, any warm body will do.

Scary.

Hitting someone in the face with a frozen trout in real life is almost certainly not funny but instead painful and, for the victim, disgusting. This nurse was probably a nasty piece of work, and I for one am I happy to hear the news of her sacking.
